Looks like Leach may have pulled his name out of consideration for the UW job...

Auburn is an elite program with resources far beyond what TT has. The point with Leach is that he never has had the recruits in Lubbock. At Auburn he would have those four star recruits on D.
I see Turner Gill fitting in better at Auburn. Leach's weird personality does not always fit with extremely conservative AD's. Gill's ties to those National Championship Nebraska teams are bound to help get consideration.
just can't imagine Leach anywhere but Tech...I personally think he'd be a fish out of water at a place like Auburn. Expectations much higher than they are at Tech and Leach is a bit of an odd duck. I just can't see him sucking up to the power boosters that run the Auburn program.
Why is that hard to believe? When is the last time SMU did anything sports related that hasn't turned out to be a blunder/mistake/folly/gaffe? (Just saying) For the record, I still hope JJ is not just treating this as a golden parachute and actually is doing EVERYTHING POSSIBLE to turn this program into an above-mediocre team. (yes, I'd be happy with just a little above mediocre by 2010) Geaux MUSTANGS! Geaux Tigers!
Well JJ better be motivated.
Most college coaches have big egos. I cannot imagine him wanting to retire to the islands as a failure. He certainly will not be using SMU as a springboard to a larger program if does nothing here. After the shellacking his Hawaii team took against Georgia its not like JJ was ever seen as a candidate for a big time program though maybe that is not what he was seeking so who knows.
Anyone else think Tech's offer of $12.1 over five years screams "lowball!" and that Leach will walk away? I do. This is like the pro sports owner who loses a huge free agent and says "look, we offered a lot of money" -- a lot of money to normal people, but in the economic climate in which they operate, well below the going rate.
To me, he'll never duplicate at Tech what he did this year. He knows it and Tech knows it. So they offer a contract that sounds like a ton of money to a bunch of us, and saves face (somewhat) in the media, but it's an unwritten thank you note so he can then depart gracefully when another school comes in and blows that offer away. "It's 106 miles to Chicago, we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses."
... "Hit it."
