Nutt met with the Ole Miss AD/chancellor this morning apparently to discuss the vacancy. I don't think he goes -- he likes Oxford and Ole Miss and this is more likely a chance for him to iron out some of the differences he's had with Pete Boone (the AD).
Also on the rumor front, I heard that an Auburn jet was spotted in Memphis today, so is Tommy West headed to Tigerland?
Just saw that Nutt got another year out of Ole Miss by starting a rumor that he wanted the Auburn job.
Yes and a million dollar raise. He got a pretty sweet deal thanks to the rumor mill.

If Ole Miss was dumb enough to sign Nutt without some sort of clause that says he cannot go to another SEC school then..
Arkansas was smart enough to put a clause in Petrino's contract.
Some of these guys are pure opportunists.

The timing was wrong for SMU and TG.
I'm sure he wanted at least 3 years up there and this season confirms what many knew about him already.
He was not really available last year and Steve O would not have considered him regardless. The criterion for the SMU job was a proven winner.
What TG accomplished this season at Buffalo is quite a bit more impressive than what JJ did at Hawaii but I respect them both.
The truth is that TG is going to end up at one of the big programs. I'm glad he is finally getting some attention for the Auburn position.

I can see the Auburn boards now if they hire Gill. Ouch! Not enough experience. Not a big name. Didn't like him at Nebraska. Etc. He would be smart to say thanks but no thanks to that job. Syracuse would be a better next step for him. He's got recruiting ties to the area now, it won't be hard to become dominant in the BE. Whereas, at Auburn, they want an SEC championship right away and certainly wins over Alabama. After dominating the BE, he could take an SEC, Big XII or Big Ten job.

Interesting OpEd in the Lincoln Journal-Star about this today:
http://huskerextra.com/articles/2008/12 ... 817909.txt
I have to say, I have had sort of the same reaction. Auburn is a disastrous situation to walk into (as far as the admin) and it just doesn't seem like the best fit for Turner (one of the most upstanding people in college football, IMO, working for the crazy trustees at Auburn???) At the same time, how would you turn this down if offered?........Although, we have all seen that TG is not concerned about money.
I'm sure he is also considering what jobs might be open in the next couple of years (ND, Penn State, Michigan?, probably a PAC-10 job or two) that would be more stable. There is also some chatter (only chatter, mind you) that he would like the A&M job if Sherman continues as this year went (and Byrne would take him in a heartbeat.) But, all of those are a gamble too. Do they become available, and with the lack of depth on the roster at a school like Buffalo, a couple of key injuries can derail your season and take your value down. (Does anyone really think Schiano will still get the Penn St. job after Rutgers performance this year?)
It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Auburn's main problem is maintaining recruiting-when the best in the business in Nick Saban is in your backyard. They better not get a Teddy Ballcoach-because Alabama is going to load up over the next few years. The new Head man at Auburn is going to have to be a great recruiter to stay on the field with Bama. Not saying it is the best spot for Gill but he was once named the No. 1 Recruiter in the Country by Rivals. Why not pair Gill with Sylvester Croom as Defensive Coordinator-and he is an outstanding Defensive Coordinator and recruiter.

Um...I can think of why a school in the SEC wouldn't do that, but the thread might die too fast for it to matter.

Auburn is going to have to separate itself from guys like Lauder.
Its possible they have learned their lesson. If they show a spine to their BOOSTERs they might attract a top notch coach.
I hope TG gets an offer. He is sharp guy. Only he can decide whether it would be the right situation but I think people underestimate him. He definitely would be a great recruiter at an SEC program.
As for faggies, I hope he does not end up there. Good for them and bad for the rest of the Big 12. Auburn is definitely a more attractive program than AM though. 1Auburn has a history of winning at the highest levels.

It is sad but true - not the thread but why he would not be hired
