It is not my intention to knock on SHSU, Texas St. or anybody, but do these kids honestly believe that 1-aa will give them some kind of shot at the NFL or something. I know it has been known to happen, but seriously??? who is giving these kids advice on life
I think more often they just want to play. If they get to the NFL then great but you don't want to spend your last 3-4 football playings years (even if you don't expect to play in the NFL) sitting on the bench. It comes down to the desire to compete and play. Some players are content to sit on the bench and get a degree and others aren't.

I believe Gamso...He is the walk-on from Highland Park...
Has SMU had any HP recruits who have stayed since Doak Walker or his grandson, Ryan Wolcott?
(answering my own question) DT Richard Neely, SMU '82.
I actually thought you must have been kidding with this question. I guess you were not paying attention in the early 80's? Seems like Lance McIllhenny would have been hard to miss otherwise.
Lance & his brother, Lott. The early 80s are a time that I do remember with joy coupled with sadness.

Edit: Unless he's just really unhappy at SMU for non-football-related issues. Then it makes sense to transfer
When I was hunting tombstones with my wife for her geneology project we came across this one, I am not making it up!!!
I understand wanting more playing time. But unless you are completely miserable with college life at SMU (not saying it's not a possibility), I don't get why you would turn down a free 150K degree for a couple years of PT. Seems a little shortsighted in my view, but hey, I can't talk, I went to Meadows

Guys have been playing football their whole life. It's in their blood...don't want to give it up and ride pine. Can't say I blame them.

Naw...I bet he is thinking that staying close to home to go to school makes no sense if he isn't playing scholie ball...he could walkon at any other school and do the same thing...without mom or dad being able to just show up while he's in the middle of tapping his girlfriend.
I don't know the guy, and I don't live in Park Cities...but I betcha that ain't fun...no matter how cool it might be to have mom doing the laundry.
