No bowl hurts recruiting

Postby HFvictory » Tue Dec 16, 2008 2:50 pm

Other than the obvious perception issues and less TV exposure, not going to a bowl hurts in other ways, especially recruiting.

The extra pratices allowed to bowl teams not only helps develop players for the future, but also are great recruiting tools. They come at a time when the season is over for most of the HS players and gives them opportunities to spend time with the entire team and watch how practices are run.

Unless you are going to a BCS bowl or one of the premier bowls outside the BCS, the best part of getting to a post-season game is the player development and recruiting opportunities they provide.

Obviously this has been another of the factors working against SMU for a long time. Getting over this one simple hump will alone bring a lot more opportunities for the football program.

That is a bold conclusion. I would like to review your data.

I think it helps recruiting since no one sees us play.

They didn't want any of our recruits anyway.
