Houston Chronicle Area Top 100

This must be an earlier version as the one in today's paper included Petty and McDade. http://www.chron.com/databases/sports/top100.html

Houston Chronicle Area Top 100

Postby panhandle_pony » Sun Dec 14, 2008 12:26 pm

I had no idea the Houston Cougars recruited so effectively in Houston. According to this report, Houston garnerd 15 commitments (out of the top 100) from the area, with many additonal prospects naming Houston as a possible choice. If I'm not mistaken, from the DMN top 150 list we have 5 commitments. If JJ can recruit the Dallas area as effectively as the Cougars recruit in their area we will surley be headed in the right direction.

Petty and McDade are not on the Houston Area Top 100 because Midlothian and Ennis aren't within 200 miles of Houston. What are you...a Yankee?

My mistake, the list online and the one in the paper are different. The list in today's paper is the Chronicle's Top 100 and they both made that.

There are 2 DT's on that list that we should be going after.

6.2 and over 260 and High schoolers.

I/we can grow those two into players.

First these aren't verified heights and weights-they probably are 6-0, 245 too
Second, this is a LOUSY LIST made upon by some one who doesn't know what he is doing
Third, you can't identify great recruits by looking at only their heights and weights. As unsual you keep insisting upon this nonsense without any context. I can find 100 Offensive Linemen in Texas who are listed at 6-5, 260+ who made All-District but will never play Division 1A Football.

It's amazing to me that Darius Johnson is not apart of the list. He was a finalist for the Houston's Touchdown Club offensive player of the year not to mention he's a big reason they are playing for a State championship on Saturday.

I agree with Stallion regarding height and weight. Here is a wild example, but take a look at someone such as Demarcus Ware coming out of high school at 6' 4" and only 195 lbs. The only school that recognized his ability (4.55 40 and 38" verticle jump) was Troy. And by the way, he was recruited as an athlete with the stated plan of moving him to DE. Granted this is an extreme case and doesn't necessarily apply DL, but it goes to show height and weight are not the only measuring sticks as to how someone might grow into a position. The moral, recruit big athletes.

You realize of course that your conclusion contradicts everything else you say.

I think the key word is athletes. It is better to recruit someone who is athletic and has the height and frame to add mass, rather than someone who is 300 lbs but slow and untalented.
