needs some love.........we haven't had a long range threat at SMU in a long time - especially one 6'8". When I heard Doherty say he might be the best outside shooter he has ever coached, I laughed...but after seeing him play a couple of games and with his performance last night against a good team....maybe Doherty is on to something.

He looked much more relaxed to me & handled the rock pretty well.
I would love to see him develop his game where he takes the ball to the hole more. Saw it a little last night.

I think Doherty deserves some patience. We all thought he was crazy for his high praise towards Ike and Jon and he turned out to be right. We thought he was just talking when he praised Nyakundi as a great shooter. Hopefully he is right in his assessment that it will take 5-6 years to turn this program into a legitimate winner. It seems to me that he is quite sincere in his assessments.

I guess we should listen to Doh sometimes. Nya needs to be let go from his leash if he can contribute like this.

I never believed that Ike or Killen could amount to anything.

bottom line is that Nyakundi looks like a guy who can be counted on for some scoring...something this team desperately needs. He will be earting into Malone's minutes this year

Agreed. Man, did Ike and Killen turn out to be pretty good for us. We only had them with Doh for a year or two. Nyakundi, McCoy, and Otis are just freshman.

Didn't Jimmy Tubbs get Nykundi's committement?

Nykundi's was Doh's second class, first class was only Cameron Spencer.

Understand that Doh signed Nykundi, but didn't Jimmy have early commits from Nykundi and Malone prior to getting let go?

No. Tubbs had early commits from Malone and Sloan. Sloan re-opened his recruitment (or Doherty told him he would not be honoring Tubbs' offer) and ended up at Texas State. Nayakundi committed to and signed with Doherty.

I knew he had Malone and Sloan (think Doh told him to look elsewhere) but I thought Tubbs also got Nykundi.

I had this argument with "Scoops" last year. He insisted that Nyakundi was a Tubbs recruit because of a conversation he had with Tubbs when Nyakundi was a junior, even after I showed him a newspaper quote from Nyakundi that described Doherty recruiting him. I dont have any doubt that Tubbs may have talked to Nyakundi while he was still the coach, but Robert didnt make a commitment anywhere until the fall of his senior year, 6 months after the coaching change.
Try not to choke on the Kool-Aid.
