Decatur corrals Buckaroos 41-14 Jake Logue catches for 167 yards, 2 touchdowns By Robert Morgan No one really knows if there was any gold at the end of the rainbow that arched over Eagle Stadium during the first quarter, but Decatur found plenty of it in the end zone Friday night as it scored six touchdowns en route to blasting unbeaten Breckenridge 41-14. The Eagles’ offense looked much like it at the end of last year as they ran a marathon around the Buckaroos. Quarterback Chandler Dane was often flushed out of the pocket but it didn’t slow him any as he completed 20 of 34 passes for 375 yards and five touchdowns. “It was a good night for the Eagles,†Decatur Coach Kyle Story said. “The offense moved the ball well and our defense was on top of its game.†The Eagles put the game away in the first eight minutes of action. Andrew McKinney scored to set the tone with a 16-yard touchdown just over a minute into the contest. He scored again at the 4:14 mark on a 69-yard catch-and-run toss as he sprinted down the sideline to the end zone. One of the extra point tries failed which made it a 13-0 contest. The defense was in top form all night and had its best outing of the season. The first big play it made came from Matt Schmitz who recovered a fumble on the ensuing kick off to give the Eagles the ball back in Buckaroos territory. Six plays and 40 yards later McKinney put his team up 20-0 on a 15-yard blast over right tackle less than a minute after his previous score. Christian’s kick was good. The defense only allowed BHS in the red zone one time in the first half, and even that one appearance went for the nothing as the Eagles stuffed a fourth down play from the 3-yard line to get the ball back. “The entire defense played well tonight, it’s really hard to pinpoint many of the guys out because they all played great,†Story added. “Alfred Murillo, Jerrod Spence, Brandon McGar and Danny Laverty are just a few of the guys that come to mind.†McGar saw more playing time this week as the coaches altered the defense—and he made the most of it. He had eight tackles and separated the ball from receivers on two occasions. The Eagles completed the first-half scoring when Dane hit Jake Logue in full stride for a 45-yard TD pass with 3:18 remaining. It was the beginning of things to come for the senior receiver as he finished the night with 8 catches for 167 yards. McKinney was not far behind as he caught five passes for 104 yards. Decatur was slow to start the second half as it went three-and-out on its first two drives. Breckenridge then took a bobbled Eagle punt return to come up with a new set of downs on the DHS 25-yard line. Breckenridge took advantage of the gift and scored six plays later to make it a 27-7 contest. The Eagles then scored the next two touchdowns before coaches pulled the starters. Logue added another 13-yard TD catch and Garrett Eison pulled in a 18 yard pass from Dane for the final Decatur touchdown. Christian was good on both kicks. “We didn’t want to lay down and let them move the ball on us,†Story added†We got after them from the start and did what we wanted to.†Home | Update | News | Sports | Lifestyle | Obituaries | Opinion | Classifieds | Related Links | Community Education | Welcome to Wise | Advertising | Submit
Re: S.M.U. Recruit Andrew McKinneySounds like he'll be a nice addition. Sounds versatile.
Re: S.M.U. Recruit Andrew McKinneyMcKinney showed some nice versatility in rushing for 95 yards on 18 carries and catching 6 passes for 73 yards and 2 TDs.

Re: S.M.U. Recruit Andrew McKinneySo does he stay at RB when he gets to SMU?
Hope he's at the game today!
Re: S.M.U. Recruit Andrew McKinneyAndrew McKinney had 22 carries for 132 yards and 4 catches for 62 yards including a 73 yard run 4th Q run to seal a 23-15 victory by Decatur(3A) over Springtown(4A). This kid sounds like a load catching the ball out of the backfield and also has shown home run potential both running and catching-have we found our fullback of the future. At about 6-3, 225 he could add a whole new dimension to our backfield.

Re: S.M.U. Recruit Andrew McKinneySounds like the great Jeff Pennington, but with better wheels.

Re: S.M.U. Recruit Andrew McKinneyAndrew McKinney had 154 yards on 22 carries in Decatur's 23-15 victory over Springtown Thursday Nite. McKinney clinched the victory with a 72 yard TD run-his third TD play of over 70 yards this season-not bad for a big guy that will probably play FB. McKinney also had a 1 yard TD run and a 16 yard TD reception-he may have caught additional passes. I love the fact that this big kid can routinely go for the home-run ball. Hope he stays at FB.

Re: S.M.U. Recruit Andrew McKinneyHmmm - a big, fast receiving threat out of the backfield? Sounds good to me.
But only if he can block.
Re: S.M.U. Recruit Andrew McKinneyAndrew McKinney ran for 4 TDs on runs of 2,9,6, and 1 yards in a 50-7 blowout of Sanger. Total rushing and receiving stats for McKinney were not included but Decateur ran for a season high 243 yards on only 26 carries and I'm sure McKinney got his share. BTW Decateur also has a prolific passer in junior Chandler Dane so they don't rely solely on the run.

Re: S.M.U. Recruit Andrew McKinneyMcKinney had over 120 yards and a couple of touchdowns last night. This kid looks like the "FULL MEAL DEAL"! :showoff:
Re: S.M.U. Recruit Andrew McKinneyactually 4 TDs(8 in two weeks) on runs of 15, 28, 3 and 5 and 124 yards on only 17 carries-4 TDs in 17 carries not too shaby-remember Decateur also threw the ball 26 times.

Re: S.M.U. Recruit Andrew McKinneyAndrew McKinney had 73 yards rushing on only 14 carries including a 6 yard TD run and added a catch for 5 yards in Decateur's 34-27 victory over Little Elm. Decateur racked up 354 yards passing and has really emphasized the passing of Junior Chandler Dane in the last few weeks.

Re: S.M.U. Recruit Andrew McKinneyAre we interested in the QB, Chandler Dane?
Re: S.M.U. Recruit Andrew McKinneyAndrew McKinney had a BIG NIGHT -the best of the season as he lead to Decateur to a come back victory against Lake Worth last week. He finished with 205 yards rushing on an undetermined number of carries plus I know he scored at least 2 TDs of 3 and 4 yards. He has an incredible number of TDs on the year. Not sure about Dane-but he's been one of the most prolific passers in the state in both his sophmore and junior years. Not sure of his size.
