Andy Katz mentions SMU's loss to AKPB

Postby CacheMoneyMustang » Fri Dec 19, 2008 4:30 am

Thought someone would have posted this by now, and I know it's a little late, buts we're mentioned on ESPN http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/blog/ind ... =katz_andy:

So apparently it's not coach Doh's fault we have a bad record, it's the school's lack of passion for the sport....

Personally I'm writing an email to Katz explaining why I think he's wrong, but what are y'all opinion on the matter?

Blame SMU, that's right. The fans are why we couldn't hit a free throw.
(The Crum Center was supposed to fix that, right?)

so it's not true that there is apathy for basketball...and athletics in general at SMU? That's just a commentary on the pathetic fan support we have.

Let's blame it on the decision to remove the courtside bleachers on the north side of Moody back in the 80's. Otherwise, we would undoubtedly have 1500 students courtside at every game creating a "Cameron Indoor" type environment. The old timers among us who remember SMU basketball in the 60's under Doc Hayes and even continuing into the 70's under Coach Prewitt fondly remember those days.

too hard to find --

SMU lost at home to Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Monday night. SMU coach Matt Doherty is a good coach who had North Carolina doing well before all went awry. It's too bad that he's at a place that has so much apathy for the sport, because he has passion for it and otherwise could do well in the business world, thanks to his background.

Random comment. The last exciting night in Moody was when we lost to Tulsa because of a ball off a knee. Many, many years.

Sorry CP, those days are long, long long gone.

I need for people to realize that Arkansas is AR and Alaska is AK. My Christmas gifts keep getting rerouted to Alaska and Governor Palin keeps them rather than rerouting. Thank you.

Also, as a side note, Arizona is AZ, not AR.

You know, I was going to wear AR, but I remembered someone messing up and being corrected, so in a moment of self-doubt I switched it to AK. ...Seems like we'd lose to Alaska Pine Bluff too.

Katz's gets down on his knees for coaches. He's not a journalist, he a PR guy.

First time the great Bobby Knight came into Moody Coliseum with Texas Tech was a pretty exciting night of college hoops. Unfortunately, that was some time ago as well.

In regards to exciting games at Moody recently: how us taking #14 OU down to the wire during the Tubbs era.....Willingham and Hopkins just missed a 3 there at the end of the game

Totally agree. Well, except for having 1,500 students at every game.

But I remember as a student sitting courtside in the bleachers and watching us battle Olajuwon and Phi Slamma Jama. The next season, Bob Hitch put in those ugly, plastic blue seats. Moody hasn't had the same atmosphere since.

But that was the first of many mistakes regarding our courtside seating. Now it looks junky, we've got wasted floor space where the band should be and the Bob Hitch seats are never full. Hopefully they'll get it right when they finally renovate Moody.
