I will agree that Hansen is an arrogant blowhard;and, that his TV dissertation on children was out of line, but I can't opine on his child rearing techniques. I have known many fine adults who raised their children in a loving home giving them direction, comfort and the tools to become responsible, loving adults - all to no avail. In short, although there certainly are no "perfect" parents, even the best raise children that become less than stellar adults with little or no emotional connection to their parents. Obviously my observation only - not a psychologist and not taking sides on Hansen's parental abilities.

He laid it out there, so I figure it is open season.

I don't think it is a coincidence that both his kids seem to despise him - it says something of his character. I listened to it just once, but the way he framed the problems with his kids was awful and it is no wonder they have forsaken him. Airing your family's dirty laundry on TV isn't exactly the best way to repair things and I feel for them for having him put it out in public.

Some people just don't have it in them. This episode just confirms my low opinion of the guy, irrespective of his relationship with SMU.

Maybe he should get to know Sidney Crosby!

I feel exceedingly sorry for him. He appears to have sacrificed his family for the least noble of pursuits.

I hope that he somehow does have a Merry Christmas.
Peace be upon him and his family. We are all un-deserving of the Christmas gift. For those that squander their lives here as well, I am particularly sad.

It must be a special time of year, because I have to agree here. Blaming Dale for our downfall is like blaming Walter Cronkite for Kennedy's assasination. He was merely reporting the facts.

Has he taken some unneeded shots at us over the years? Of course. But that's only because we are a joke of a program. I would almost guarantee he will be one of the first to jump on the bandwagon when (if) we are relevant again.

Here's the deal: Every year Hansen runs that out-dated "Thank God for Kids" video because so many saps ask for it. That leads to either a guilt trip or pangs of hipocrisy by Hansen, so he has to do an editorial at the end talking about what a bad father he was/is. If he doesn't point out his failure as a parent, plenty of other people will do it for him.

It's the same thing every year, only this year things have apparently gotten nastier. If Hansen is a jerk, it sounds like he raised a couple of jerks, too. Or rather, didn't raise them.

I think Hansen is trying to reach out to all the fathers out there who are making the same mistakes. You don't have to be a famous sportscaster to be more devoted to your career and self-interests than your children. Especially in this city where big business/making money is so valued.

In some indirect way Hansen probably thinks he is doing a service for all the men with their heads buried in their jobs/playing golf/going hunting with the guys/etc. who should be home giving attention to their kids. Hansen sees these guys all the time at his hangouts and at his parties.

Unfortunately, doing an emotional autopsy of your family live on the air doesn't really get the message across. It gets people's attention, but it's out of shock, not sentiment.

It's typical Hansen........"It's all about me ba-beeee......" He ignored his two kids while living it up during the 80's and 90's. Now he's in the twilight of a marginal career and he wants his "babies" to slobber at his feet and say it's ok for putting us 10th on his top ten priority list. He's just the kind of loser to show an old clip about kids and use it as a premise to lecture his two kids that they are spoiled and are being mean to poor old helpless daddy.

Yet another reason Squidney NEVER should be compared to Alexander Ovechkin.

Alex the Great will mix it up, but he doesn't sneak up behind anyone and hand out cheap shots - he'll put his head down and drill someone into the boards, but he never waits for a teammate to hold a guy down first. Crosby is talented, obviously, but what a punk.

He put it out there — fire away.

He did sacrifice his family for his career — at one point, I heard he was making $800K — but after making decisions like that, it's hard to feel sorry for him.

Having your kids resent (or hate) you isn't worth any amount of money. Everyone realizes this eventually, some too late.
