yep. If we had been "defending nat'l champs SMU," we'd have gone to the Fiesta Bowl, IMO.

In my old age I lose track of when some things happened but I think that even the Fiesta Bowl was kind of a lower tier at that time. It became more substantial when the BCS took shape.

hey arkansas non smu alumni dude, yeah you..

No way you can equate the Sun Bowl 1983 to the Independence bowl. There were way less bowls back then. It was a slight to SMU but the Sun Bowl also had a pretty large national TV audience back in those days. Not at all the type of game it is currently.

Verne used to call that game...but, we couldn't "get up" for ALA freakin' BAMA!!, seemed unprepared, spoiled...shame! Long LIve Bear Bryant.
