free throws

it was great to see us shot above 70% last night from the line (20 of 28)....and the starters shot 80% (18 of 22). Our terrible FT shooting has been my biggest pet peeve.....as a team we are still only shooting 60% - yikes!

Outside of the win-loss record, this is the worst stat of the season. It's absolutely pathetic that a team cannot mentally master this part of the game. I know mechanics are part of it and all that jazz but come on.

Any team that cannot shoot 70 percent or above collectively should shoot 2,000 free throws a day (about 150 from each player). It drives me nuts.

Against Pine Bluff this team went 11-19 from the line including 2-7 in the second half. If you can just make that 5-7 in the second half you most likely win that game. Against UTSA this team went 18-27 from the line including a 6 -12 performance in the second half. That game would of looked much different if you make a just a couple of more of those. This is something that I look at players lack of effort as the problem. I think this team has the same problem as the football team in which the players just do the bare minimum they have to in order to keep their scholarships. Last night this team actually looked like they were hungry for a win and look what happened.

Conference play could be a disaster if we don't get better at our free pitches.

Kansas defeats Memphis in OT to win NCAA Championship

Kansas 14-15 Free Throws

Memphis 12-19 Free Throws

Some key misses in regulation cost them the NC

among other things, I think free throwing would improve when a lineup is established and more flow to the game. I think guys like Mccoy, williams, nyakundi and faye have good shooting strokes. even papa and bamba are not bad for bigs.

my big concern and pet peeve is rebounding. we give up a ton of second chance points and we are getting outboarded by most of our opponents, even much smaller ones.

I guess I don't see any truth to this argument. McCoy went into the game Wednesday averaging 32.9 minutes a game and was just shooting 53% from the line. Williams was averaging 31.6 minutes per game and was shooting 38% from the line. Fall was averaging 27.3 minutes per game and was shooting 49% from the line. These three players have been getting steady minutes on the floor and they are still not average from the line. You can't make excuses for these players shooting bad from the line. You can't even blame DOH for this one. They have to work on this on their own time.

game free throwing shooting is not like practice. yes, you can practice it plenty and improve your stroke, but you can't easily simulate game pressure and conditions. williams and mccoy already have good strokes.

I know Williams and Mccoy have played alot of minutes, but they can still get out of sync when the team is constantly out of sync. confidence and focus has been noticeably lacking with this team and that can always hurt free throw shooting which has always been contagious. thats my opinion, you guys can disagree all you want.
