Preston Medlin- Hebron High Schoolhttp://smu.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp? ... _key=84306
Anybody know anything about Preston Medlin from Hebron? Haven't seen him mentioned before. Averaging 22 pts per game.
I dont follow bball recruiting but am starting to subscribe to the PF.com No Expectations Model. I must say I was pleased that when I clicked on this thread it didnt say: "Hopeless" It tastes better when served from a Bowl (game)!

Anybody know anything about Preston Medlin from Hebron? Haven't seen him mentioned before. Averaging 22 pts per game.[/quote] Saw him a year and a half ago, he was on the same summer team as GJ Vilarino for awhile (I think GJ changed teams). Medlin was the only other player in that group that looked close to being a college prospect. I'm a bit surprised we're recruiting him, from what I saw he wouldnt be a talent upgrade, or even status quo. He does seem to be off to a good start for his senior year, so perhaps he's a late bloomer. Try not to choke on the Kool-Aid.
This Medlin kid from Hebron continues to light it up scoring 20+ pts every game. Went for 26 & 28 back to back @ the Whataburger Tournament.
Also, noticed the same for 2 pg's, Finnus Craddock, Garland , & Javarez Willis from Pinkston. They are consistantly scoring in the 20's & having very good senior seasons. Saw Willis had a couple of games in a row over 30. All 3 have us listed on their favorites list.
Remember that Ryan Harp averaged 20+ppg his junior and senior seasons. Scoring in highschool doesn't always translate to college. That said, I have never seen this kid play or ever heard his name outsaide of this thread. Hopefully he is a pretty good player and wants to come here.
Every college team in America has a kid or kids on their rosters that were studs in HS but can't make the adjustment to the college game. Harp is just a soph & its early in the season. If he continues to work hard & regain his confidence u never know what might happen. I wouldn't write him off just yet. I hope to see Medlin play soon. I don't know much about him either but he's putting up some serious #'s.
remember that Harp scored 20+ a game in Abilene playing against West Texas schools......there's a difference in scoring 20 a game in Abilene compared to Dallas or Houston. SMU-12 NCAA appearances, 1 Final Four

Preston scored 29 pts last night against a very good Mesquite team led by one of my personal favorites, Vertrail Vaughns, who put up 30 on Hebron. Mesquite won 67-56 but Preston continues to knock down 20+ per game.
Sorry, just now saw this update LA_Mustang.
That is true that Harp played against West Texas schools but he was also an accomplished player for his AAU team- Dallas Mustangs. Even played a great deal of PG on that team from what I understand. The point is, some players just do not transition easily to the next level with the same degree of success even if they were/are 20+ ppg scorers in HS. Not to say that Harp is out of time to do so, he is still only a soph.
I hope the rack is right. But looking at him over on the bench I keep seeing Bobby Aitkenhead over there.
I will not make age an issue in this campaign. I'm not going to exploit for political purposes my opponent's youth and inexperience.
I wasn't aware that Harp was a big scorer in AAU ball.....I only followed his sr year of HS.....but you're right - scoring in HS does not always translate to the college level - see Derrick Roberts. Coming out of HS at 5A Houston Nimitz he averaged 30 pts a game his senior year. You just never know. Like I’ve said before, I would love for us to have a Sass type player on the roster now. Woods, Q and Damon evolved into scorers but Sass was born into that role….IMO, the only true scorer we’ve had in the past 10-12 years. While he was wild at times, I loved watching him play. Medlin, a local kid from Hebron HS committed to Utah State yesterday.
One of the top scorers in the area in 5A. Although we were listed on rivals as a school of interest it appears we weren't in his final 5. Utah State is 24-3 with a RPI of 28. http://recruitingblog.dallasnews.com/ar ... -utah.html "We have a great bunch of outside shooters. Unfortunately, all our games are played indoors."
In some ways, I haven't lost complete hope in Harp. Sometimes, shooters take time to adjust to the longer 3 distance and to deal with the adjustment in speed of the game and the arc needed to clear taller players. A shot that was clear in high school is in the third row of the stands in Division I. Other shooters seem to come straight out of HS and can light it up. But look at that Maryland guard who has been lighting it up of late. For the first half of the year he was spotty at best. And some 2 guards never make the adjustment. I remember playing against a guy in HS and was highly recruited who averaged 30 points a game. He went to college and hardly played. As I recall it took a year or two for MJ to develop at UNC. It all will come down to work ethic.
