Breakfast Big MEN

Postby BUS » Mon Nov 10, 2003 10:22 am

I went to the coaches coffee this morning and listened to Coach Bennett ( Phil's Brother ) talk mostly about offense.

While talking to the head coach I said...
8 to 10 big butted, guys is what we need. 4 from JUCO and 4 others .

NEED DEPTH!!!!!

Go Caoches and Go Mustangs

Jerry during his speech gave me the impression that our redshirt freshmen have some real size. And that will help us next year.

IMO, with rare excetion, regardless of ability, linemen should be redshirted. They need the added size that a year in the program will give.

"SMU’s fall roster boasts an impressive seven players who tip the scales at over 300 pounds. Contrast that to the 2002 lineup which had only three men over the mark. SMU’s big men are Brandon Bonds, Chris Poulos, Townsend Hargis, Sterling Harris, Kenard Burley, Chris Urbanus and Justin Boren. Add to that group 298-pound Brad Kieschnick, 296-pound Eric Neal, 294-pound Desmond Jones and 292-pound Darrin Johnson and SMU has some weight to throw around in 2003."

Slow but steady...

And of those seven, four are true freshmen and one is a redshirt freshmen. One Junior and One Senior.

If you add 290+ guys, you add 5 more, 3 of which are freshmen.

But are they big or fat? Can they get out of their own way? I remember some 300 lb lines at SMU who couldn't set up before the defense was in the backfield. Weoight rooms and agility training in the off season boys. Then we have something to talk about.

I was there and Bus did say "big butts"....

And then he started singing "Fat bottomed linemen make the rockin' world go round!" I will say the freddy mercury/Phil Bennett mustache was a nice touch.
