Not having Tubbs hurting basketball?

Postby PonySnob » Fri Nov 14, 2003 10:10 am

Is Dement having trouble recruiting in south Dallas now that Jimmy Tubbs is at OU? It appears that we really did not recruit any "top-notch" local talent as we have in the past.

Two words-Bryan Hopkins.
At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Thank you Pony Snob. You and I are on the same page. Dement's window of opportunity has closed and it closed two seasons ago. However, the "Commitment" allows coaches who do not perform to stay around. Dement's momentum came to a slowing crawl when he failed to get the Sasser lead team into the NCAA's. It also was a big loss to lose Tubbs. Why did we not pay him more to stay? Some commitment. Dement has failed to get the top area players for several seasons now. I believe that was Shumate's downfall. Hopefully, the attendance figures will be respectable in our conference games. But do not hold your breath on that one.

Wasn't it Tubbs who recruited Hopkins?

I'd say this class is so so. Not up to par from the last two classes.

I believe Tubbs was a key part of Hopkins' recruitment.

We lost Tubbs because OU doubled his SMU salary. It would have been a relatively small price to pay to keep him. The admin is so short sighted.

Tubbs leaving was also an opportunity to assist in a large public University program. He was promised some x and o imput there, and his salary was doubled. It was a step up in many respects and puts him closer to being able to be a top flight head coach some day. Who knows maybe at SMU.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
