I would be very surprised if Bell or McCann is not starting next year. I know people are down on our secondary (bc apparently many think a corner should be able to cover their man for 7+ seconds while a QB sits comfortably in the pocket without any pressure picking things apart ), but McCann is the best corner we have had since KG (maybe even more skilled but not quite as fast) and Bell is right behind McCann. I don't see Bell as a safety and McCann doesn't need to move, which is why I see Clark playing safety more than likely.
Good point. I think Bell has to sit out the first game. Whatever the case we have an upgrade in the secondary.
Bell only has to sit out the first half of the first game.

Don't know about his academics coming out of high school, but since he went the JUCO route, he obviously doesn't get 5 to play 4. I'd think he has 3 to play 2, but don't know that. I can't speak for the original post, but didn't Rock walk with the other seniors before the Southern Miss game? If so, the coaches might have been acknowledging that we might not get another year for him  just a guess.

I dont think you understand what I'm saying. First, the 5 to play 4 is universal, and includes his 2 years at junior college. 4 seasons of competition, in 5 calendar years, beginning when he enrolls, and that includes enrolling at a junior college. That combination of 4 and 5 can be spread in different ways, but to put it simply, if he used 2 seasons of competition at a junior college, in 2 calendar years, then he has 3 years to play the remaining 2 seasons. The only way he could only have 2 seasons/years left is he he spent 3 years (and played 2 seasons) at junior college.
Walking with the seniors doesnt mean anything. It doesnt change the simple math that a player has 5 years to play 4 seasons, and Rock has only played 3 seasons (yes, 2 at junior college, and 1 at SMU) in 4 years (2 at JC and 2 at SMU), and thus should have 1 year left, without any kind of appeals or requests for extra seasons. It's standard, everyone gets that many years. Everyone, except non-qualifiers, who have 4 years to play 4 (2 at junior college, and then 2 at their 4 year school) unless they finish 80% of thier degree requirements within 4 years, in which case they can have the 5th year. That's why I asked if he was an non-qualifier.

I looked over the entire NCAA rule book on fighting, Hoss you’re correct, half game from the rules. And absolutely no rule about decking a Referee. So the INFRACTION by way of the rules does not differentiate a referee from an opponent.
Bottom line, you don’t like a call? Deck the ref you’re only gona get a half game LMAO.

Remember under the new NCAA rules a player who graduates and has eligibility left can transfer to another school and be immediately eligible. Hence, Rock could immediately transfer and play even if SMU does not extend or grant him the extra scholarship time.

Big publicity back east last season about several players who exercised this option and were instrumental in the success of their new team. If the rule were changed I missed it.

Can not confirm but was told Rock Dennis was at junior college for three seasons. Played a few games his first season and started his last two seasons. (Don't know junior college rules regarding how many years a student-athlete can play) He only came to SMU with only two years of eligible left on his five year clock. So he is done unless he was hurt his first year at junior college.

that is not what was reported on the recruiting services and SMU itself-now they could be wrong but he was reported by several sources as a 3 to play 2 recruit.

according to recruiting services yes. Perfect example which I somehow forgot after a "few beers" at 3:13. Better question-why were you asleep at 3:13 late Saturday Nite? Party much?
