Northeastern State U. Hires SMU's Jeff Konya as AD
BROKEN ARROW, OK -- Jeff Konya became Northeastern State University's fifth athletic director on Monday.
The announcement came at NSU-Broken Arrow following an extensive evaluation period, according to NSU president Don Betz.
"This a great day, an historic day in many ways," said Betz. "After one of the most thorough searches, today we have someone to champion our roles in academics and athletics. We have someone who understands our rich tradition, someone to challenge us to reach higher and go farther."
Konya comes to Tahlequah from Southern Methodist University, where he was the senior associate athletics director. He also served as the assistant athletic director for compliance and adjunct professor at the University of Memphis. He held similar positions at Texas-San Antonio, Bucknell and South Dakota. He was the assistant to the athletic director at Iowa.
"This was an easy decision for me," Konya said. "Visiting with fans, alumni and the people on campus has been a great experience for me. They possess an exciting passion about our athletic history, and they care about the progress of our program."
