We have the makings of a very good OL now - it was quietly the key to our offense this year, as it kept BLM alive and gave him a little time to throw. Beachum and Tennison are going to be studs. LeRibeus might be, as well. With some of the young hosses coming in, and as everyone gets bigger and stronger, I see Coach McKnight creating a wall of beasts up front.

It would really hurt to lose Fontana. Has he already taken his official visit here?
Back off Warchild seriously.

If we lose this kid, arguably the best in our class, to freaking La Tech then I don't know why we hired JJ... We are not supposed to be battling the NMST's and LaTech's of the world for recruits with him as HC.
We could've done that with the Moustache.

He ain't gone yet, just thinking about it. Let the coaches have another run at him. They convinced him before.
However, until they post some wins, JJ, et al, will have a problem holding onto kids like this. La. Tech made no sense to me until I saw they won 8 games and were in a bowl game last year. Plus kids start thinking about being closer to home and going to school with friends.

if one lives in NOLA, a flight to Dallas beats the hell outta a drive to Shreve/Bossier/Ruston any day.

Three points:
La Tech went to a bowl game, and they had a significant crowd. He's 18 and
If he plans to stay in Louisiana, Tech is a reasonable, if not good choice. Could be that he wants closer to home or wants parents/relatives to see him play easily.
La Tech and SMU are completely different schools. If chooses the former over the latter, regardless of how good he supposedly is, that's the life he wants. It's not bad. It's not "less" than something SMU provides. It's just different. The upside to La Tech for him is that it is easier to get away from social pretense in campus life, something in raw abundance at SMU. The downside is that he misses out on a completely different college experience which might enrich his life in ways he hadn't anticipated.
I love the Hilltop, but it isn't for everybody...and as much as I would hate for the program to lose the recruit, it's okay.

I'm not going to slight the kid for making a choice on where he wants to play ball, but throughout the recruiting process Fontana has made a point to say one of the best things about SMU was the quality of education he would get here. Choosing La Tech indicates that education really isn't all that high on his list of priorities. Its a glorified community college.

If it was the key then what was the engine?
Larry Brown? We have Larry Brown? Cool!

Agreed. We should fire JJ if 1 high school kid changes his mind and decides to decommit from SMU. That makes total sense.

you are the reason smu football has been so pathetic for the past 25 years. your attitude, where you expect to lose out, whether it be on recruits, games, practice, etc. The only thing you probably never expected to lose was your virginity.
Successful people do not EXPECT to lose. Period. We hired JJ b/c of that attitude.
