Linebacker Robert Parker was a three star Rivals guy. Had forgotten about him. Line was a two star with very limited offers.

I assume the 3 star you're talking about it Chayse Joubert at Duncanville who'd previously been at Arlington Grace Prep. My brother in law talked to one of the Duncanville coaches who said Joubert's a freak of an athlete (I think Rivals has him at 4.6). The coach said he's faster than that and an incredible athlete but that he wasn't good enough to start for Duncanville b/c he was really raw, hands weren't great. We'll see...those things can be improved upon but you'd think if he was such a great raw athlete, he'd be good enough to start even if he's raw...this HS coach (not the HC), was surprised at the scholarship offer...JJ must really be projecting here...
If you are considering that your coaching staff is a key strength then this is the kind of gamble you take.

If I am not mistaken, the Rivals site shows Joubert with an offer from Miami. Is that accurate? If so, there must be something about that guy that makes him a legit D-1 prospect.

Don't place too much emphasis on high school stats. A receiver's numbers are also based on how many passes are thrown in the offense and how good the qb is at throwing the ball. This class is shaping up to be better than any of Bennett's classes. Aside from recruiting, a big difference will be if the player retention on the team improves with our new coaches.

I agree...I have a ton more confidence in JJ to spot "potential" than PB...still worries me a little but we'll see

Joubert is a legitimate athlete. He is not a legitimate 3 star. Its crazy to have him rated higher than Darius Johnson. No way in hell Joubert has had an offer from Miami in the last 5 months-if he ever did. There are numerous kids on our offer list who claim only an offer from SMU but apparently would rather not play college football than to commit to SMU. Read between the lines.

Precisely, Scout's evaluation of Texas talent often indicates
their total lack of commitment in conducting even superficial
research. Therefore, their results are often flawed.

But I thought the playing field had leveled and the ship was going to right itself?

I believe he's saying these "offers" don't exist...

Right just because a guy has an (oral) offer in June doesn't mean its a formal offer or that the offer remains open for 1, 2 or 5 months or that the Coaching Staff can't just rescind it.
BTW I have less problem with a team taking a sleeper with outstanding athletic ability than I do with a team taking a high school All-District type who will never have the skills to excell at the D!A level. Joubert is a great athlete-and I'll let the Coaching make those decisions. I'm just pointing out that a service that has him rated as a 3 star is very questionable.
