Re: McClinton Sets SMU Visit.Karrington had some pretty staggering stats coming out of high school. I don't have the info in front of me, but it seems as though he was on the local Top 100 list and had been chosen (maybe on more than one occasion) as The Dallas Morning News' Player of the Week. We won't know how good he is until he gets on the field more (he was plagued by a nagging shoulder injury earlier in his career), but he was quite "celebrated" coming out of high school – at least if you measure it by awards and such. As to whether he got "quality" offers from other schools, I don't know.

Re: McClinton Sets SMU Visit.Area Top 100 Players are a dime a dozen-you win with Texas Top 100 or at least the upper half of the Area Top 100. Many many kids on that list don't even get Division 1A offers.

Re: McClinton Sets SMU Visit. The reason I said what I said about Mr. Neal are many...
1. I have spoke to him and I think he does have the ATTITUDE to hurt someone. 2. His size is needed 3. I want Adami to have a year to show what he has at DE and think he could plat DE on Sundays 4. Yes. I would like to see bigger DE's too. 5. My defensive philosophy of liking bigger linemen to keep attention off line backers. Mustang Militia: Fight the good fight"
Re: McClinton Sets SMU Visit.Stallion You are probably right on Karrington. When I said celebrated, I meant on the team VS national. He was not a blue chip but the area 100 had four DL's that were and were in front of him. That year was a banner year for D-linemen. I cheched the Stats and there were a bunch;Prepstar all region team, top 100 area, texas top 150, made almost of the lists, the best at top 25 DE in the country and worst top 60 in the country, played on an allstar team. Lots of articles and mentioned in many of the same articles as Dibbles(texas), Leitko(ND),Martin(texas),Thibodeaux(Oklahoma)and Wright(texas). All the above were part of that huge blue chip class. He probably was in the tier behind them.
Re: McClinton Sets SMU Visit.don't forget Randy Denman in your DT depth chart. He saw some time as a RS frosh and might be a significant contributor before he's done. Also failed to mention Lucky DeLay in your DE rotation. As I recall, he was as well thought of as Karrington. One thing is certain; we will have more depth on both lines next year.
Re: McClinton Sets SMU Visit. The standard ratio, give or take, is ONE Div1A FB player per 100,000 population. So, if DFW 'area' is 5MM, then we have about 50 or so Div1A prospects. Now, the Top50 are going to have higher 'hit' ratios, perhaps 60% hit, 40% miss, and then the remaining 20+ will come from the next 75-100 players. These ratios are skewed one way or the other depending on the concentration of 5a, 4a, 3a, etc... In other words, 5MM is 5MM no matter if it is 2a or 5a, you still have 1 in 100,000. But, 5MM with higher 5A concentration (i.e., Dallas/Houston) will have better facilities and better competition to prepare and increase athletic prowness. Therefore, the ratio could be slightly higher (say 1 in 85,000). Of course this doesn't apply to NYC. And that's why New Mexico with 2MM people only has maybe 20 Div1a athletes per year.
Re: McClinton Sets SMU Visit. It's rare, but Dave Rader's TULSA (IND) team went 10-2 and beat Top10 Aggies with no player on their team recruited by any other Div1a team.
Re: McClinton Sets SMU Visit.GOREDGOBLUE I cant remember last year but I recall two years ago Dave Cambell said Noth texas had some 250 players go D1 and Houston area had about 200+. It was not normal but each area led the country by a bunch. Coach Phil is operating in fertile territory but being invaded by a lot of outside competition to steal the area talent..
Re: McClinton Sets SMU Visit.your numbers are a little inflated. Texas Football publishes them every year-but its at home. I estimate about 138 players from the DFW Metroplex sign Division 1A offers and about 350 statewide.

Re: McClinton Sets SMU Visit. Not so fast, my friends! (Sorry - hadn't done one of those in a while....) Anyway, Randy Denman is listed at 6-2, 260. In my outside opinion, in order for him to fit into the rotation at DT, he's either going to have to add significant weight or come back in the spring with Adami-like quickness. I like the guy, and I want nothing more than to see him do well. But I'm not sure how much he'll contribute without improving his weight/strength or quickness. Or preferably both. And to hpfan: tsk, tsk, tsk .... you know better than to rely on Dave Campbell as a source of actual information! [ 02-13-2004, 10:38 AM: Message edited by: Smoo Power ]
Re: McClinton Sets SMU Visit.Ok, so if DFW signed 135, then probably 30-40 are not ever going to start, so the 1 in 80-90k population is about right on.
The National Average is around 1:100k, Texas obviously is going to be above that average, NY below (since no one plays in NYC).
Re: McClinton Sets SMU Visit.Stallion 366 players in state to D1 in the 2002 signing period. more than half were in north Texas that year(say 215). FYI and THX..
Re: McClinton Sets SMU Visit. No that's way too high-the 2002 Texas Football had 142 players from D-FW Metroplex area and 108 from Greater Houston.
