While it doesn't break my heart to see 'Mr. Haynie' shut out on the QB's, the attitudes of these kids is troubling. I'm glad my job doesn't depend or hinge on the egos of HS brats.
"I'm not trying to be big-headed, but some people have me as the No. 2 quarterback in the state," Reid said. "He treated me like I was not a highly ranked quarterback. Other schools treated me like I was the best quarterback in the state." Yes you are being big-headed young man. But you're in good company with large numbers.
And this one, ..."I'm the only QB A&M has offered since Day One," McGee said at the time. "I've been Fran's guy the whole time. I feel really good about everything. They want to build everything around me :showoff: , and I feel good about that." Hope he learns to read and gets his 'guzintuhs' down pat. :smart: Then when they're NOT the second coming like the guy at the corner Fina said they were, they wonder why that Dr. Pepper truck isn't air conditioned and have a better sound system.
Long live Thomas Sowell!

I heard a story of a guy my brother knew from home that was recruited by Nick Saban at LSU. He said that they took this guy into the locker-room at LSU and had an LSU jersey with his name on the back hanging up in a locker. They let him try it on, wear it around for a while. They then took him out to the Tiger Stadium field where they had his high school highlight real playing on the Tiger JumboTron. Then an announcer came on the PA and announced "John Doe has entered the game for the LSU Tigers!!" After that, they took him up to an ultra nice box at the top of the stadium and had the cheerleaders serve him amazing steak.
Have any other questions on how these kids get big heads or how the Big boys like LSU, Oklahoma, or Texas land all the talent???

Just about every school does something like that. As for the Big Heads when you get about 20-30 offers from across the country it might give you a Big Head-but you know what the team with the most studs generally wins about 80-90% of the time. The problem those kids face is that every QB at schools like A&M and OSU are highly recruited. For example, although McGee is on the cusp of being a National Top 100-he has to go compete with Reggie McNeil who was a National Top 10. But it sure does help to have a competent backup QB like a Brandon Hassell or a superstar third string RB like Robert Merrill that can step in a get the job done. When SMU can have a third string RB step in and run for over 1,000 in his redshirt freshman despite sitting the bench for the first few games and splitting time the rest of the way then we will know we have arrived.

No, we will know that we have arrived when we win more than 5 games. Two years ago, we had three backs that could have had 1000 yards had they played an entire season as the sole back. The year started off with Keylon and Kris splitting time. Then we realized what we had with Shan D and he went wild....

That's great, but my point was that this is one of the reasons why high school stars get such huge heads...They are treated like gods at 4 or 5 schools...

Who cares? You don't have to have them over for dinner. Let their heads swell up like pumpkins! Just figure out how how the recruiting game is won and do it better then the others.

Yeah, but good luck doing it better than OU or LSU...or any other powerhouse for that matter...

I wouldn't worry about because we don't compete for the same players anyway. Have we ever won a recruiting battle with OU or UT since the DP-don't think so-although we have beaten the Aggies a few times for a few recruits.

I am not worried about beating the powerhouses, but a top recruit or two could really do some good for us. We don't need to go head to head with OU and Texas, but a top recruit could be HUGE for our program.
We are stuck. The big boys can recruit the top players and let the TCU's and Fresno's have the top, but unqualified players...We cant even take the partial qualifiers. I am sure this has been said before, but we either need to adopt bettter recruiting policies, or we need to stop thinking we can copy TCU's success....
