I agree that this year's team probably was bereft of highlight reel items. And we're not the Special Olympics. Win some games and then celebrate in the off season.

As far as the game at Huntington, WVa., I hope to be there absent one calender item that might interfere. But to the person who said WVa is pretty, they have never been to Huntington. Its kind of slummy. Marshall is nice, the rest of the City is well, rust belt chic.

leave it to an EX pony to tell me how much leadership we have on a 1-11 team that could have beat Tulane, Rice, Tulsa, etc...but didnt. So expected from a PB guy.
It tastes better when served from a Bowl (game)!

When the "Hardest Hit of the Year" award goes to your kicker, don't have an awards banquet.

a post season banquet is a tradition, every team does it, good or bad. It doesnt matter wether you were conference champs, or in the cellar, you have one final get together, wrap things up, and honor the players that performed well. Even if you feel that most of the players didnt perform well, and werent giving much effort, then you give an award to the players that did. It may be even more important in that case, to make a statement, highlight whatever players DID play well and gave their best, and perhaps differentiate them from the slackers. Show everyone that the guys who produced get something for their effort.

You definitely give Kellis Cunningham a plaque for the biggest hit of the year.

Give Thomas Morestead the MVP trophy, because he was the most valuable player. I dont know where we would have been without him.

Whoever your leading tackler was, give him a mention, stand him up in front of the rest of team, and tell them that they need to be a little more like this guy.

Even when the team had a bad season, you can make a positive thing out of the awards banquet, use it as a motivator.

Cancelling a dinner that has already been schedule is just flat out cold. You've basically just slapped every kid on the team in the face, you're adding insult to injury, here. And I know alot of you like that, you want to give the team a psychological slap, and some might need it, but I really think this does more harm than good. It's something that some people wont forget. You dont want treat people this way, just because they didnt give you what you wanted.
Try not to choke on the Kool-Aid.

I can see both sides of it but I do think it's sorry to just cancel it. At least have a dinner to recognize the kids' effort (esp. the seniors).

We also don't know what kind of team interpersonal politics are going on behind the scene. I keep hearing all these rumors of a big split between the younger players and the seniors. Maybe this stems from that.

If they have ever been to an awards dinner they will be thankful to miss it.

I kind of like that it was cancelled - it calls out that this program is getting serious.
