I've heard similar reports of a big divide between the young guys and the upperclassmen. I think I remember reading something that quoted Bo Levi saying that we have alot of guys on the team that are OK with losing and it doesn't bother them at all.

I remember way back when I was in high school. I ran cross country. We had a combined meet with the JV and the Varsity. I was on the JV and we won. The Varsity lost. Being underclassmen and victorious the JV members were talking and joking. The Coach walked on the bus and announced when one team loses, we all lose, I don't want to hear another word spoken the rest of the way back. And if I hear another word, the person who said it is going to be walking home. But the point was made. He wanted us to be hungry and understand that losing was not funny and was not an option. JJ may be making the same point in a very quiet but unmistakeable way. Yes, a couple of players deserve a pat on the back, but apparently many need a swift kick. Its JJ's program and if he feels a statement needed to be made, so be it. He's the one who has to produce a winner, not us.

I was one of the harshest critics of BLM early in the season. However, the kid was put in a damn near impossible situation. He was a true freshmen playing with a bunch of other freshmen and sophomores running one of the most complicated offensive schemes in football. I saw progress as the season progressed and I feel fairly confident that we're going to see VASTLY improved quarterback play.

I was one of the harshest critics of BLM early in the season. However, the kid was put in a damn near impossible situation. He was a true freshmen playing with a bunch of other freshmen and sophomores running one of the most complicated offensive schemes in football. I saw progress as the season progressed and I feel fairly confident that we're going to see VASTLY improved quarterback play.

I don't altogether disagree with you. However, the first 4 minutes of each the Tech game and TCU games were disastrous even by SMU standards. It's hard to wash away the stench of such things. Hopefully we get better.

How can Braden Smith be the QB of the future when many on this board wrote him off in November and waved good bye with terse comments as he was transferring??? I got slammed at that time for pointing out that coaching staff was using him as a key host player entrusted to several key recruits and that such trust and importance would never be placed by the staff on any kid who may be disgruntled and contemplating a transfer. Looks to me like he is still in school and was an important host again this past weekend or did I miss something??

That was Logan Turner. I do not think there has been any mention of Braden transferring.

Awards for a team like this are called "parting gifts", and Pat Sajak is not part of the proceedings. Although I'd love to hand one out. How bout' "best actor" to June Jones in his role as a Head Coach (even though it wasn't that convincing).

June Jones made several comments at the season, that players were doing just the bare minimum. He said he had NEVER seen the weight room empty during the middle of the day, at any place he had ever been. Mabey that has something to do with, winning two games in two seasons.

That's because June Jones has NEVER coached student athletes at a school with SMU's academic expectations. These guys have mandatory weights/ practice/ film/ meetings in the morning and in the afternoon. Isn't the middle of the day when they go to class? Class might not have been as critical at Hawaii, but I remember lectures being fairly important if you wanted to pass Finance. June seems to not have any kind of problem throwing kids under the bus for lack of work ethic, "ingrained loser mentality", breaking team rules etc. Isn't it part of his job to teach these kids what it takes to win? I'm not a coach, but I didn't know harping about your lame players in the paper or on the Hawaii 5.0 Sports Radio Network was a winning motivational technique.
