Hi guys,
I apologize if you have rules against opposing fans posting on these boards, but I just wanted to pop in and say with complete sincerity that you guys played hard tonight. I was at the game so I got to see your boys play in person - I know that a 75-foot freak shot has got to be a tough way to lose a game. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't ecstatic about the win, but I have to tell you that you gave us a great game that we very nearly lost (and we Herd fans know all too well how it feels to lose a game, lol). Your team played tough until the buzzer; I wish you the best of luck this season and I hope your team and fans have a safe trip home.

you may think it's a tough way to lose a game, but we are prolific at finding ways to lose games. Much like Christian Laettner willed his team to a win over Kentucky in Philadelphia way back when, the basketball gods have an uncanny way of smiling down on SMU opponents when least expected to ensure the eternally burning flame of Peruna's law.
Thanks for the nice comments, though. Do you remember a football game out at your place a few years ago where your team was outplayed, with some bogus calls toward the end that solidified the win? Well, that was another example.
Don't take this as coming from a bitter fan. Just one who understands. And welcome to the board.

We always welcome fans from the opposing teams to the boards. Nothing wrong with being giddy, I would be too if we had hit a 75 footer to win.
Ugly game by both teams in the first half, both played much better in the second half. Wish I could say I was really upset, but SMU fans consider losses like this par for the course.

The only thing that was similar was on our side when we beat TCU with the last second shot at TCU - 2 yrs ago.
I was there and that was awesome. The little guard (who's name escapes me) -- just ran off the court.
More often that not, we are stunned by losses like this that seem to always go against us.

The great Dez Willingham! still though, that was a regulation 3-pointer, not a 75 foot miracle. I think the only luck we have had is Bobby Chase's 30 yard TD catch, still not a total miracle,
And Demen'ts last year Rolando Bratton made a couple of 30 foot buzzer beaters.

bagice, not basketball, and a long time ago, we did have the Miracle Man. We'll have to live with his work for a few more years.
I was surprised when I first read about how we lost (I was at a homeowners meeting with the great Jerry Norton), but upon reflection did the ol' so what's new - SMU found another interesting way to lose. Didn't we lose on a miracle bank 3 pointer last year?
Herdfan - thanks for the comments- good luck the rest of the season. Your fans are always classy. I wish you the best.

I have only been a Pony fan for the past 3 years, but I have to raise this question nonetheless. Is SMU the most unlucky team in college athletics? I can count at least 7-10 times in the past 2.5 years where we have lost in the last minute/OT in football and basketball. It is literally unbelievable that we cannot close out any game/get a lucky break. I have been researching this phenomena and will send it into Bill Simmons, the ESPN.com writer, to gauge his thoughts..Just throwing the question out there.
