SMU offers DeSoto OL

Postby Corso » Thu Dec 11, 2003 2:18 am

TheInsiders.com says SMU has offered OL Quentin Turner (6-3, 285, 5.1) of DeSoto.

DHS head coach Dave Meadows had this to say about Turner: "We use him at strong-side guard and flip him around depending on what play we run. He's pretty athletic and could probably play all three line positions too. We don't chart pancakes, but if we did, the total number would be pretty impressive. It's kind of a frequent thing with him in the game. College coaches are looking at him as an O-lineman, not specifically a tackle, guard or center, but as an offensive lineman."

Turner says: "I can execute the plays. I maintain my blocks and I can knock people on their butt."

Turner bench presses 340 pounds, and squats 500.

He's considering Northwestern (high interest), Louisiana-Monroe (medium interest .... has offered .... will visit 12/19), Princeton (medium interest) and SMU (medium interest .... has offered).

If this guy is thinking about Northwestern and Princeton, he's surely not going to have a problem getting qualified for admission at SMU.

I love smart lineman. I don't think we would have to worry about ole Quentin screwing up the snap count. This young man must have brains!! :thumbupcool:

And it sounds like he has the brawn to go with those brains. Now the question is: can he play? Or is he just big?

Wow, we are now competing with the Ivy League schools for recruits. Way to go coaching staff!

I have heard that the only OLman that we are looking into is Steve Lobo.

Got info on both. Lobo was supposed to visit Arizona, who I think was his leader, the week Mike Stoops was hired. He was asked to delay his trip until Jan. I think he has another trip scheduled to New Mexico but SMU could make some hay while Arizona delays. As for Quinton-he was listed in August in the Insiders Texas Top 100 but his stock may have dropped since. His only other OFFER is from Louisiana Monroe.

Really? I read that Arlington (Bowie) OL Tyler Dool (6-5, 310, 5.3) is down to SMU and Oklahoma State.

JR,

Get with the Program.

We at SMU are going teach the rest of the NCAA how to do it THE RIGHT WAY.

This kid will solidify our graduation rates and, with proper courses, is a sure-fire All-Academic candidate.
