Found this on the (Los Angeles) Daily News website:

Local note:
Moving on: Antelope Valley College quarterback Jerad Romo has orally committed to play football at Southern Methodist and will make it official Wednesday, the first day NCAA Division I programs can sign community college players.

At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Oh YEAH!
Hopefully this guy's so good that he either takes the job -- allowing us to redshirt Chris Phillips (which Phillips might not like, but it would give him another year to grow and mature, and to learn a new offense under the new coordinator) -- or he pushes Phillips to a new level. Either way, this is a good move for SMU!

Good news. Don't know much about him so if anyone does know more than his stats let us know.

Also, I wonder if this means that we do have an OC already? You'd think a QB would want to know that.

I wonder what the guys that come on here specifically to [deleted] about no JUCO qb signed yet are going to do now?
The attitude dictates that you don't care whether she comes, stays, lays, or prays. I mean whatever happens, your toes are still tappin'. Now when you got that, then you have the attitude.

I have been [deleted] about not signing any JUCOS. One JUCO is not enough, so Iam going to continue to [deleted]. How about some JUCO linemen, WRs, CBs? Glad we at least got a JUCO QB. That was a top priority.

Go Red Go Blue-just interested-what makes you conclude this is a good pickup-the fact that he walks on two legs and has two arms. He could be the next Joe Montana for all I know but I've heard next to nothing on this guy. But since you know he is a "good pick-up" what's the basis?

Well, if you weren't such a smart a ss
(deleted)

and didn't hide behind your pen so much, you'd quit sniping long enough to actually consider that perhaps, just perhaps I wrote something without all those intentions...

LET'S EXAMINE, SHALL WE?:

I wrote ...

"At least we have a good backup if nothing else.. "

Now, most educated people would think, "Hmm, what GRGB wrote was that at least this guy probably could play and be a backup to our current starter - based upon him being a solid JUCO. He has good numbers, good size. Other than that, we don't really know. But, looks promising."

By that, most people would only interpret that what I am "supposing" is this guy is PROBABLY better than Tate Wallis. With luck, perhaps he could start.

NOW LET'S ANALYZE what your wrote:

"what makes you conclude this is a good pickup-the fact that he walks on two legs and has two arms. He could be the next Joe Montana for all I know but I've heard next to nothing on this guy. But since you know he is a "good pick-up" what's the basis?"

Well, wouldn't you think that a guy who has played California JUCO ball with good numbers would at a minimum be better than TATE WALLIS?

Is that so UNREASONABLE??

Why don't you quit sniping and for god's sake don't give any more money to the SMU Athletic Department, because we all know that you can't anyway - being banned from your scandals from the 80s. I just don't want us shut down again for your 'fan' interference.

BTW, how is Bill Clements doing?

Stallion - surely you don't ask for any proof on opinions given by others?

I'm sure GRGB has seen him play, or at the very least talked to one of his coaches.

I trust the Coaches evaluation of his talent, that they offered him a scholarship.

Point is, I didn't give the guy a ringing endorsement, then Stallion blasts me as though I said he was the second coming of Roger Staubach, but that I had no proof? Makes no sense.

He is such a sorry old man filled with hatred that he can't think straight anymore and he lashes out at people's pen because he associates "inflection" in writing, where none can be ascertained.

His point of view is warped on society as a whole, and against SMU fans in specific.

It's that time of year for him anyway, Grinch, Scrooge...whatever you want to call him.

Wow. Interesting posts, but back to the JUCO QB. Looks like he only attempted about 17-18 passes per game. Or maybe he didn't start the whole season because 206 passes for the year does not seem like a lot. I really would like to see Phillips Start at qb, i think we need his legs and he improved every game. And I would like to see Tate move to TE. Regardless wether Romo is the answer to our qb questions or not, it will be nice to have more depth at that position.
Good to have him aboard! Go ponies.

How interesting that we will have another person named Romo at QB! (Mike Romo) Are they any relation? Just curious...

Also, digging into his stats:
- he was named conference player of the week 5 straight weeks at one point.
- he was named national player of the week one week.
- He seems to be at least somewhat mobile. He had 82 carries on the season, which is a bit more than a normal QB, but not as much as if the team ran the option.

Doesn't tell much, because I have no idea if it is a historically decent JUCO system, but thought I would give more insight.

From the Antelope Valley Press via the Football Forum (reads like it was written with help from the SMU PR Dept.):

Antelope Valley College quarterback Jerad Romo will sign a letter of intent on Dec. 17 to play at Southern Methodist University in Dallas next year.

Romo, a 2001 graduate of Tehachapi High, said he is excited about playing football in the Western Athletic Conference. He will make his return to California as a football player on Oct. 30 when the Mustangs play at Fresno State.

"They need a good quarterback and they have a good program," Romo said.

Romo said he was offered a scholarship by Baylor and some Division II schools.

"From what I've seen and what I've heard, this was the best program I could get into," he said.

Romo joins a Mustangs team that went 0-12 this season, and struggled offensively. SMU was ranked last among the 117 NCAA Division I football teams in total offense with an average of 260.67 yards per game.

The 6-foot-2, 210-pound Romo will compete with freshmen Ricky Joe Meeks, Chris Phillips, Ryan Rowland and Duke Hasson and sophomores Tate Wallis and Ashton Nixon for playing time.

Wallis played in 12 games and passed for 390 yards and one touchdown this season.

Phillips passed for 389 yards and two scores in five games. He was second on the team with 330 yards rushing and one touchdown.

Romo will go to Dallas in January. He said he doesn't feel like he will have to catch up to the returning quarterbacks because Mustangs coach Phil Bennett will be hiring a new offensive coordinator.

"They had a lot of people playing quarterback this year," Romo said. "What they're really looking for is a solid leader. I'm not worried about the competition.

"I feel like we are all starting on the same page."

Although they struggled this year, the Mustangs may have some promise for the future. Of the 72 players on the roster, 48 were either true or redshirt freshmen.

Romo completed 125-of-206 passes (61 percent) this season for 1,731 yards and 10 touchdowns, helping the Marauders to a 5-5 record. His efficiency rating of 145.3 was 14th in the state.

"They have a real young team," Romo said. "I think the program's on the rise. I think I can get in there right now and have an impact on the program."

Says he was offered by Baylor.

Worst quote: "From what I've seen and what I've heard, this was the best program I could get into." Very ambiguous statement.
