ESPN has updated their ranking for our future big man.

I'm not too familiar with ESPN's ranking system. How does this rate? Good, bad, or somewhere in between?

Of the players I have seen play in person I would say that the ESPN rating system is the most accurate.
J.O's rating increased dramatically from a 40 with no rating to an 83 & the #57 rated center in the country.
After you get past the obvious studs @ this position I do think that the center position is the hardest to grade. Alot of these kids are being projected 2 & 3 years down the road which I feel is the case with J.O.

In summary, Doh's recruiting class will look better on paper. If Doh can land a couple of interior JUCO players in the spring that can make an immediate impact on next years team I would like to see JO redshirted. I think an extra year would really payoff down the road for this young man.

A little perspective on Julius' 83 rating. Last year McCoy was an 88 and Otis a 73.

In some people's eyes, the SMU staff and the ESPN recruiting service, Julius is a little bit better of a prospect than some people on the board would have you believe, I guess.

Also, everyone is so quick to point to TCU's basketball program and how they are "leaving us in the dust" etc. Julius had offers from both TCU and SMU. Chose SMU. But now that he has, everyone is piling on what a terrible pickup it was for us. Had the kid chosen TCU it would have been a great get by TCU and yet another prospect Doherty whiffed on. How about a little consistency guys? 8)

From all the negative things that have been said about him on this board I am totally shocked by his rating. I think some had compared him to Tomasz and said he would spend his career at SMU on the end of the bench and that this was a total waste of a scholarship. Really hope this guy's evaluation is accurate.

If you read the TCU board, some of the guys over here think a whole lot more of the job Christian is doing than some over there.

This is an interesting ranking bump based on his season. What I will say is that he seems to play pretty well vs Dematha and Gonzaga, which are two of the better teams Good Counsel plays all season. Not quite sure what to make of the bump, but he'll be serviceable a few years down the road. My criticisms of Francis aren't really b/c he's truly awful, but more that I'd have thought we'd be doing better on the trail by now.

Wow, just read the ESPN evaluation and am shocked. Can't say I've ever seen the player they are talking about...lol. I'm happy for the kid, that was a nice write-up
“When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. But with these players coming in, we should make a run. We have a lot of heavy hitters. It could get real ugly for a lot of teams we play.”- Jalen Jones

what I saw from him in Charleston was a guy who appears to me to be at least a year ahead of Bamba in his development. Question is how much he will improve over 4 years.

gotta remember we were close on 2 good players, or at least I hope we were seriously in the running for them...not that almost getting great players does much for you on the court
