I think the conventional wisdom is that we aren't getting into that list until we win some games and make a show of improvement. Darius will be instrumental in getting us on that list.

So, sure, be cautiously optimistic. But it's signing day, no need to rain on our parade, we've got 364 other days in the year for that.

TCU is OU's, UTs, Ohio State's rival and in a completely different stratosphere. The question with our class is did we meet needs and fill in with quality players that fit our schemes on both side of the ball.

But I'm wondering to what extent the transfers and grey shirts will actually add to these deficient areas. I would think to some extent but no in the manner we believed.

Agree. From what I have seen, we still have some significant areas on defense that need a tremendous amount of attention. The recruits we have will help but we need more and of high athletic abilities. I wouldn't expect true Fr to be a huge help next year but I still fear our defensive woes will continue for many years to come.

I think that going to the 3-4 defense will help in the fact that we didnt sign many DT's or LB's. Where as our depth wont be as good our starting front 7 will be more effective than last year. With the signing of Juco Frazier , and if Evan Hualauahualau ?, Taylor Thompson , and Ellison can step up with the remaining guys we have we might be all right. Also on the RB if Mcneal can get cleared and stay healthy we will be fine. And also dont count out the Franklin kid from Goliad. Im on board with you Stallion, this kid is an athlete no matter what kind of competition he had in High School. He might be able to play a little RB he only averaged 12 yards a carry as a junior.

he was a RB as a Senior, WR as a Junior. Yeah I guess he could be a RB-but I bet he ends up at Receiver. Pray that McNeal gets the waiver, and there are no injuries at QB or RB or an entire season could go down the drain because we have gambled at not taking more players at those positions-which btw are two positions that injuries are quite frequent.

GGGEEEZZZ people. Let's state the obvious and complain. This program has had no success in 20 plus years. We are coming off back to back 1 win seasons. I am impressed with the current group in light of the reality of SMU football. SMU is taking steps in the right direction to be a winning program. There are a lot of good players in this class that have quality offers. The coaches also are trying to get a few juco's and transfers to supplement the talent base. Let's put together just 1 winning season and then complain if the quality of recruits is not on par with the so-called competition. For 20 plus years, SMU's biggest obstacle to success was its own anti-competitive policies. Those policies appear to be gone now so let's get behind this program and see what a proven winning coaching staff can do the next few years around here.

I have no way to know this but are we trying to get a QB in the timeframe like we tried to get Kevin Craft who wound up going to UCLA?

Bo Levi Mitchell
Braden Smith
Kyle Padron
New Mexico St. Transfer (who can't play until 2010)

And...
Justin Willis (if June would ever look in that direction again)

What about the Skyline kid Frazier. Could he be considered a QB type or athlete and we're looking for a place to play him?

We do have a LA top 100 player in Joey Fontana. I like this class considering we are coming off back to back 1-11 seasons.

Last I checked we officially have received LOI's from 11 three stars. When was the last class when we had 11 3 star players. Recently, we have been lucky to get two or three of them. So, unless ratings are inflating, this is a very good class for positions filled. Yes, we still have glaring deficiencies at QB, RB, DL and OL. I am sure that JJ knows that sooner or later those will need to be fixed, but as he showed at Hawaii, he wanted to get the offense going first and then the defense followed. If defensive players see that they are coming to a school that is averaging 40 points a game, they see that they have a much easier job.
