opinion about the class

nice class...if we had another 4 or 5 years to build up to a decent program. The circumstances and the product on the field called for about 5-7 jucos. Most were needed on defense to get competitive, especially at linebacker and DLine. We got two jukes and only one D-Lineman. Disappointing in my view. I expected more urgency. ON the other hand, why would i expect real urgency at this point?

JJ's a different cat. He seems intent on building this from the ground up and had a pretty good start last year and a good one this year. I like the emphasis on a solid OL. Wish we had the same focus on the defensive line, but hey if he's ok right now, I'm ok. The thing I really like about this guy is that he KNOWS we'll win. It's not confidence or leadership or anything like that. It's knowledge. And I believe him, as I'm sure his staff and players do too.

I don't understand how anyone is that disappointed with this class. We were one of the most embarrassing teams in all of college football last year. We haven't beaten a D1a school in over a year. How can we possibly expect to get anything better than what we got? Yes we got a lot of offensive players and not necessarily enough to fill some of our holes but we still got some pretty legit guys and we have one of our better post DP recruiting classes from what i've read.

FYI we signed 3 jucos, Clark, Moore and Frazier. We have a transfer RB from Miami which Miami is better than a JUCO team, we have a QB transfer from New Mexico State they are also better than a JUCO, and a giant ESTONIAN shot put and discus thrower that JJ is in love with. So turn your frown upside down and try to be optimistic every once in a while.

Very true, but remember, we got some young talent at D Line and LB last year that hopefully will improve this year and get some decent playing time. The help we got this year was at DB, and we need all the help there we can get.

All in, is the class perfect? No, and probably for the reasons 2007 mentioned above. But it's a step in the right direction, and if we make a couple of those, we'll see improvement.

OH, and another thing, if Rice can win 10 games getting classes filled with mostly 2 star athletes, then why can't we do the same thing? Yes I want better that that in our classes, but we can win in our conference with the talent we are recruiting.

Not so much as Hoop, but I too am a little disappointed with the lack of emphasis on D which is obviously where we needed the most help. Still like that speedy little WR pickup though.

??? We picked up how many LBs, CB, and S? I don't see how you can see there was a lack of emphasis on D? D line maybe, but not the whole D.

We desperately needed more players and LB and S, and needed an infusion of speed int he secondary. I think those were major needs that got filled.

Yeah, I have to agree - we did about as well as could be expected for a team coming off 2 very poor seasons. I think we got some solid help for the secondary, and a few guys that can help immediately up front.

It would be nice to have a few 4 and 5 star guys on the D-line, but that's just not realistic.

I would have been nice to get a couple of big, ugly nose tackle types.

Our real problem on D last year was on the line and at LB. IMHO. Really did not help that as best I can tell. The LBs we got are for the most part undersized for this level and some will likely be safeties.

obviously we will need to run the 3-4 next year. I guess our DT's would be

1st team Frazier
2nd Evan
3rd Thomas/Dollens/Pittman/Handy

thats all we got at tackle. Imagine if we had 2 or even 3 injuries! We are going to have to run a 3-4 in my opinion.

At end I would say starting is Dizer and Thompson. I wonder how Greiner has turned out? And now Justin SMart is back at DE too.

At LB remember we got Kyle Padrons brother who transfered in from North Texas. I believe he was a 3 star out of highschool. He will be able to play this year and has now had 2 years in a weight room! I am excited to see Yenga at LB also

JJ is following the same track he took at Hawaii. Build the O first and patch in fill on D until you get the O in shape. This class has speed, OL help, a running back transfer from Miami and some DB and safety types who will help immediately. Will we be able to stop the run next year? Probably not, but teams will have more difficulty passing against us. Last year they could do both (although Navy didn't need to). Better passing defense and speed on defense means fewer points per game since running it down our throats will take time. I look for a more entertaining team this fall. We may or may not win more games, but we should put up some points and that will make the games more entertaining to say the least. If we can start putting up 30-40 points per game, then it becomes a test for the other team to out score us. Now, we are still thin at QB especially with Turner transferring. I think JJ will have no choice but to give Willis some reps this spring, just to have some depth if BLM goes down. But overall a decent class.
