June Jones' Connections

Post by huskerpony »

Finally got time to finish listening to the press conference.

Anyone pick up on his discussion of Joey Fontana?

Apparently it was that he grew up with Bobby Hebert's kid when he was playing for the Saints. (June Jones being the guy that coached Hebert to a Pro Bowl in Atlanta.)

This one always kind of baffled me. I think he is probably the biggest coup in this class (at least in the top 3.) I can see Arkansas, but an O-lineman turning down Nebraska, or turning down Stanford and Harbaugh if academic caliber was important to him--I just assumed it was a distance thing.

Nice pick up on that one, coach!

The other thing is that June Jones may be the only person I have ever seen that is that mono-toned, but after listening to him for 30 minutes, it always gets me pumped up!

I'm with you on the Stanford thing - but its no big deal to play for Nebraska anymore - in fact it is becoming like a punishment.

I finally watched it as well. My favorite part starts at the 27 minute mark, when June fields questions from the press. Very informative stuff, and yes, Bryce Hudman is back!

Those days are over. Cosgrove has moved back to the Big 10. Talk to Patton about it in about 8 months! (And 9-4 is a punishment I think most SMU fans would happily accept.)

My point on that one really was that he was a New Orleans kid being recruited by two guys who had just won a national championship at LSU. Figured it was the cold or he wanted to go to a better school, but then Stanford would have made sense--hence why I then just assumed it was a distance issue.

Recorded the bb game last night & watched it today & JJ said @ halftime that he was heavily involved in getting McCoy to the hilltop.
McCoy & JJ went to the same HS in Oregon.

So what?

Listen to what he says, not the inflection in his voice (or whatever it is that agitates you) - you can't listen to his descriptions of these kids and not get excited. Coach Jones was the right man for the job, and is the right man for the job. He still seems to be in the process of a roster overhaul, but there is no doubt he is the man.

Monotone with purpose. His tone inspires confidence, which translates to both fans and players, or to at least one fan.
