The only thing missing on this list IMO is a inside player, banger type that can score & rebound.

Where are these players originally from? DFW? Why should we be excited about a Juco listed so far down the line? Shouldn't we be interested in high school talent rather than the no. 100+ JC forward? Seems like we get an unheralded player with potential grade problems. I can understand the no. 15 JC player, but he rest??? What are your thoughts?

I think these players are morelikely be able to contribute right the way . . . unlike most three-star high-school who need a year or two to adjust to college game speed. Good case is McCoy vs. D. Williams. McCoy is a better player, but D Williams can contribute right the way with consistency.

Don't get caught up in the player rankings for JUCO & not all kids go to JUCO because of grades.
All of them are averaging around 20 pts per game for very good programs & can provide immediate help.
Doh can't afford to have a bunch of kids that are still developing.

Thanks, but on the surface, I can't get too excited by the 120-150 ranked Juco players. Seems like the whole team is "getting experience" given their ages. I still prefer a high school top 20 in the state to players so far down the rankings. I hope your are correct that after the obvious top 20 Juco's the rest are fairly comparable to one another. I'll leave it to Doh, his team, his career. And, basketball fans such as yourself to keep me informed.

just about the entire Texas Top 25 class has already signed/committed-in fact only a handful of 3 stars remain. So Doherty will have to look out of state or go for JUCOs.

Just keep in mind you have in excess of 300 Division I teams. Do the math with roughly 13 on scholarship at each school, and you're talking about 3,900 roster spots.

Personally, if the Doherty era is going to gain any traction, I don't think he has any other choice but to go the JUCO way and infuse the roster with potentially better talent.

That means a couple of players are likely not going to be coming back. IMO, the two big targets for that would be Malone and Kwiatkowski.

I've said 50-50 on Dia returning, but when it's said and done, his ceiling is too high for him not to come back. He just needs a serious come-to-Jesus session with somebody about what he really wants out of his career.

Agree. Doh has to go the juco route unless a highly ranked HS player like McCoy falls into his lap like last year (thanks J.J.).

I think you have to add Hoge to the mix re: another possible ride that becomes available.

Again, thanks. I don't follow basketball like football. Growing up in Illinois and going to Vanderbilt, I used to be a big basketball fan. But when I came to Dallas, I fell in love with SMU football and pushed basketball way in the background. I also was frustrated as most of you were that Pye killed basketball as well. No reason we couldn't have continued as a top 20 program even after the "recruiting incident" that doomed football. Watching SMU's administration shoot itself over and over in basketball was a real turn off. I like Doh personally but this turnaround seems frighteningly slow!

I have one more comment. First, I as long as we keep rebuilding we need to alter our non-conference schedule. I really believe a young team walks through games against unheralded competition. While not winning a conference crown, the next big goal is a major upset against a "name" team. Young teams need to build alot of emotional energy to get better, that only occurs when they see a Memphis or Texas on the schedule every week. SMU and other teams improve and play better against better teams, unfortunately they also play down to the level of lesser teams, don't improve and often get upset or simply lose. What do you think?

Hopefully we are finally beginning to see a third youngster step up to be a more consistent player. Robert Nykundi has hit for double figures in 3 straight games-more importantly he's 8-16 (50%) from the 3 point line in those 3 games. Too early to tell.

It is also nice that he is a freshman since he redshirted last year.

Yea, McCoy/Otis/Nyakundi/Haynes is going to be a pretty good class for us. Robert has really come on lately, which is good to see. Haynes hit a bomb late @ Tulsa etc. McCoy is having a great freshman season, can't say enough.
