New Julius Francis VideoModerators: PonyPride, SmooPower Not covering for Francis BUT...What did Bamba's numbers look like his senior year of high school? I remember them being very low. Has he been a world beater for us? No...He does average a good number of points, rebounds, and blocks for a college player.
Bamba played limited minutes at Oak Hill, which is a basketball factory. Maybe the most famous in the country. I am not nearly as up to speed on the DC area like a lot of the other guys are, so I will defer to them, but I would be hard pressed to think that his team has the depth of talent that Bamba's Oak Hill team had (even though I know Julius's team is in a top league).
That said, Julius's vids look like he was WAY more offensive talent than Bamba did at the same age. Turnaround jumpers etc. That Bamba really didn't show even a glimpse of until his Soph season at SMU. I also think his frame looks a bit more filled out than Bamba was at a similar age.
"Good Counsel (DC AREA) big man Julius Omoniurhie has made a decision, and will be headed to SMU. Julius is a project post that really has an ability to be coached. He is originally from Nigeria and has only been playing basketball for 5 years. The sky is the limit."
Quote I ran across from a recruiting site. Lets see how it all plays out in a couple of years. "We have a great bunch of outside shooters. Unfortunately, all our games are played indoors."
,,,,just remember a 6-11 high school kid is playing sometimes against 6-3 and 6-4 Inside guys. Yes Centers take a while to develop, but a 6-11 kid should get some garbage buckets just by standing under the bucket. He won't get those when he is playing against guys his own size.
Agreed. But, Bamba was that size too and sometimes played, or didn't get in the game, against undersized competition as well. No matter how you slice it, the kid is a project. The comparison is being brought up to wonder if he is LESS of a project than Bamba (a guy who averaged double digits last year, 8 and 8 this year, and is 2nd all time on the SMU blocks list) was. Right now I am thinking he is in fact either less of a project and maybe even has a higher upside. Time will tell.

Also, he is listed 6'11 230lbs. Bamba was listed 6'11 190. Not sure if Julius's listed weight is accurate, but if it is, is Bamba 230 lbs even as a Senior?

Would you like me to do another run down of who else was on that team, and which NBA teams they are playing for now? Durant, Rondo, Smith, Gordon, etc? You cant compare Oak Hill to any other high school team, including Good Counsel. KC Rivers is now the best player for 12th ranked Clemson, but he didnt start when he was at Oak Hill, with Bamba, Kevin Durant, Ty Lawson (Point guard for North Carolina), Eric Devendorf (syracuse) and Jamont Gordon. Bamba didnt develop offensively in high school, because he wasnt asked to score. They had plenty of guys who could fill up the basket. What they needed from Bamba was defense and rebounding, so that's what he did. Try not to choke on the Kool-Aid.
From my post above (top of this page) in response to smupony....
Yes,I read that, and I was agreeing with you. Perhaps I sounded a bit harsh in the first post, what I really meant was would you like me to list them? I used to do an update on Bamba's old teammates each season, because it was impressive and educational to look at the real extent of talent that team had.
Try not to choke on the Kool-Aid.
Ah okay. Sorry for the misunderstanding. Didn't want anyone to think I was presenting a skewed perspective. I agree how impresive the list is.
I'm seriously beginning to wonder if Doherty will cut this Francis kid loose. He seems to be regressing with 6 total points in last 3 games-only 2 baskets in 3 games. Again a 6-11 big kid in high school should be able to score 2 baskets in 3 games by accident. I think he belongs at Binginham or whoever we out recruited to get him

First off, he's not looking at any 6'3 centers in the WCAC. Every big in that league is at least 6'6 or bigger. Second, he's better then Bamba was in high school by a bunch. Key is to get him on campus this summer, and get him to work. In the meantime, no more African bigs, unless it's Aziz N'diaye. Get some burly Jucos to bang, and someone who can fill it up.
“When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. But with these players coming in, we should make a run. We have a lot of heavy hitters. It could get real ugly for a lot of teams we play.â€- Jalen Jones
You know he may have 3 ships to offer if he believes JO is regressing to the point of complete uncertainty. It could be JO, Kwiatkowski and Malone on the hook. When Alex Malone plays a lick of defense, let me know.
