Oklahoma prospects?

Postby Charleston Pony » Sun Dec 21, 2003 10:04 am

last year SMU did pretty well in Okla landing Muse and McGee. Do we have any Okla players interested in SMU this year? Or Louisiana? I keep hoping there's a big man or two out there we just haven't heard about yet.

Was thinking the exact same thing, thought we'd get 1-2 from OK ... Tulsa area prep schools?

I gather the coaches are focusing almost exclusively on Texas guys this year. Obviously, if a major player expresses interest, we'd listen (I assume), but I gather the sentiment is that we have a shot to round out the class with some better Texas players. I'd guess there's an outside shot at maybe one out-of-state guy, but that more than likely, we'll field an all-Texas class.

Look for out-of-state guys to re-appear on our radar next year (hint: probably at the JUCO level).

speaking of Oklahoma-Tulsa just got a commitment from Demacho Ousley a highly recruited 3 star WR we were after early. He had offers from Missouri, Colorado, OSU & A&M. Also, it appear that 6-4,300 Lineman Walter Boyd has decommitted from OSU and appears ready to pull the trigger for Tulsa. I thought Tulsa had there best recruiting class before today-now its bordering on outstanding. They may have pulled the tables on SMU a bit as they appear to be focusing on Oklahoma and the DFW Metroplex and 4 pretty nice recruits from the Metroplex including S Randy Duncan, Ennis DT Tommy Daniels and DB Curtis Williams.

I hear we had backed off Ousley.

....Don't forget that Donald Massey took what he called a "real smooth" visit to Tulsa this weekend and seems interested. That would be a tough pill to swallow. As for Ousley-unless there are academic issues its hard to believe we would back off from a big WR propect who was more highly recruited than all of our WRs put together.

Stallion, remember it is just more spin from the athetlic department employees and 'half full kind-of-people' We all know Johnny is realistic in his posts. I have a few concerns regarding the recruiting this year. Where are the offensive and defensive lineman? Tulsa appears to have beaten us for a few D/FW propects. This is unacceptable to me when the D/FW prospects are critical in our turnaround. Furthermore, we need to land Donald Massey. Especially, when we have his brother already. I am pleased to see that we signed a JUCO QB, but I would also like to see us land a few JUCO'S at other positions. TCU has several hearlded JUCO'S comming in that will ensure them another successful season. The Dallas Morning News lists do not have many top state 100 players commited to us or even considering us. Not a great sign when we are coming off of a winless season. The state top 100 players are the players that make impacts on teams. Cavan seemed to have more top 100 state recruits than Bennett has gotten this year. It doesn't seem that we have made the progress we need to with the high school players to say that winning seasons are not far off. I could be wrong, though. Comments and responses are appreciated.

Well, for what it is worth, we have more state 100 commits than TCU. Like I said, for what it is worth.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

I agree that Massey remains a priority. If we lose him to an Oklahoma or Notre Dame or something, that would be one thing. Losing him to a Tulsa or TCU would be pretty tough to take. Hopefully he's just enjoying the process before he comes back to reality and joins his brother at SMU,
