I think we sort of have to, arent we still 3 over the limit? Either 3 guys leave, or 3 recruits dont qualify, or some combination of leave/fail that brings the final roster down to the limit.
Does that include the potential for kids greyshirting this year?

Many had been speculating about this for several months-I'm sure many on this board already had their roster out trying to figure out who would not be back. Most I had discussed this with thought it would come after spring practice-but now that its done I think its preferrable that it happened before "spring powder puff flag days" so that the coaching staff can focus on the players remaining. (Plus there weren't enough flags to go around for a full scrimmage).
I think most on this board accepted that this would happen a long time ago, not only b/c of scholarship limits but also because JJ has done this in the past and has talked about it...personally, I think it's better for someone to have a chance to play elsewhere rather than ride the pine for years...academic scholarships are often subject to a minimum GPA requirement

I posted this on the other thred. Thought I would move it
I am surprised Jones cut three of his recruits too! I am just wondering... What happens to these guys. I mean its hard for many to stay at SMU without a scholarship because its so expensive. So where do they go? Do they still get this semester payed for? I guess they can transfer somewhere? Do you still have to sit out a year if you are cut? Do we give some academic scholarships?

I am not seeing anything about the 3 recruits being cut anywhere. Did I miss something somewhere, or are you guys seeing this on rivals or something?
I'm assuming these are the guys who were rumored to have eligibility questions?

Ok so we lost Sowe and Johnson on DE. And moved Yenga to LB. Where is our depth at DE!!! Obviously Braylon is redshirting. He is 17. I guess Smart and Greiner now are available. And Maybe Ellison? Flemming?

Fleming reportedly will play DE and OLB.

Another thing is that Coach Jones has found other schools to continue these guys' education with football scholarships. Well done, Coach Jones - doing what needs to be done on behalf of the program, and still doing the right things for the kids. Or 3 grayshirts.

College coach recruiting against SMU...."Hi mom. Are you sure you want your son to go to a school that may very well decide to cut your kid in a year or two?"
Not saying this wasn't necessary but can't help with recruiting...or am I overreacting?

Of course you're overreacting. This happens everywhere, especially when a new coach takes over. Non-story, and hats off to Coach for helping these guys play elsewhere. Here's wishing each of them the best.

You are overreacting. There are still guys on this team that don't deserve a D1 ship, but will remain on the team, because they follow the rules, and do what's asked of them. I'm not going to go into details, but there can't be a single one of these released players, that are (honestly) surprised by this. The "three strikes rule" was pretty lax. Almost all of these guys have more than the three strikes against them, and were warned each step of the way. With change, sometimes comes pain.

I should note here that we got to meet ReedFrawg on the Blvd last year. Good dude, likes the Mustangs -- I see his point, and I can't say either way, but he's not here "flaming" or trying to rile us up, I think he asked this because he was concerned.

It pretty much happens everywhere these days especially when a new coach come in-but it very well could be used against SMU nontheless. BTW I saw a thread today that suggested that A&M may have run off a long list of players-seemed like about 13. From the reaction of the Aggie fans it seemed to be a recent development not generally attrition.
