Not saying this wasn't necessary but can't help with recruiting...or am I overreacting?

TCU does it all the time.

Hmmmmmm. Maybe if you get rid of the slackers you can turn a program around. What a novel idea!

actually I think TCU is not a very good example of a school that does it much. TCU has very high retention of its football players and pretty high graduation rates. This is obvious-all you have to do as look at the comparatively small signing classes TCU has in many years. Look for the schools signing 28-30-32-heck 41 players like Troy. In contrast TCU has signing classes of 21 or below in 4 out of the last 5 years-now some may have been added after signing date but TCU has a pretty high retention rate. Not saying TCU doesn't run players off-just that they aren't the best example of a program that does.

Regardless of who else does what, if this is evidence of changing the culture surrounding SMU athletics, I am all for it. If ever a cultural change was needed....

This is just an excellent example of recruiting "up" or recruiting "over" as has been discussed elsewhere. We need better athletes and this type of thing is going to happen until we get them. When you get to a level of success that rivals TCU, in most instances you recruit to replace rather than up. You always look for better athletes but they are not as easy to find and obtain when your team is full of pretty good athletes already.

This is the best sign we are on the way back since we created the education department.
