Leach is in the driver's seat. He has a guaranteed contract now, 2 years remaining. He can get a new job after next season or two if he desires. I wouldn't sign that new contract - it's too restrictive on his 'next'' move

"Coach Leach has declined our 12.7 contract. We will enter the decision making process and should have some announcement by next week. Our decision will be based on the best interest of Teaxs Tech and all its supporters."

Tech wanted to lock him up long term and they couldn't come to terms. If Tech is nearly as good the next two years as they were this year, in two years, Leach will be a pretty hot free agent. I can think of a bunch big name schools that would like to bid for his services at that point in time. At least three PAC10 schools, two SEC schools, three Big XII schools, 3 Big Ten Schools, and a number of ACC and BE schools. TT will pay more in two years to re-sign him if he even considers their bid.

Mike Leach requests to speak at Texas Tech's regents meeting

10:28 AM CST on Thursday, February 19, 2009

By BRANDON GEORGE / The Dallas Morning News
[email protected]

Texas Tech's Mike Leach has formally requested that Friday's Board of Regents meeting that could determine his fate as football coach be made open during executive session and has asked to speak.

Leach is the only person in standing who could request that executive session be switched from private to public.

Leach told The Dallas Morning News on Wednesday night that he would be attending the meeting.

Leach and Tech officials haven't been able to agree on a contract extension after 10 months of negotiations. Tech's Board of Regents announced Tuesday a "special called teleconference meeting" at 2 p.m. Friday at the administration building in Lubbock.

The regents are scheduled to convene into open session before adjourning in executive session for a "discussion and consideration of matters ... including but not limited to the position of the football head coach."

Will he have to pay the school money for this speach?

Has anyone run across any information that would approximate the $$$$ lost and/or itemization of revenues lost when a college coach breaks his contract for another school? I realize every situation is different, but a general summary that identifies the many potiential sources of lost revenue. There are the obvious set backs and losses such as the impact on recruiting, alumni support.....etc. which are hard to define with a dollar tag; but it also affects matters such as the buy out of assistant coaches who have multi-year contracts and are not retained by the new staff, shared endorsement revenues that are lost ( shoe/equipment company endorsements), TV and radio shows, sports camps, speaking engagements and a host of other revenue issues that are out there. I am just curious as I have never read or heard very much about these potiential issues when a coach leaves. It really does make sense to have high buy out amounts to merely allow the college to recover the extra dollars it costs them when a coach bolts and leaves them with the bill.
