I do not disagree with cutting the players if a new football home was found for them. I do think NCAA rules need to be put in place on how schools handle recruits and players. As of now a player is so much meat on the hoof, if a better bull comes along get rid of the old bull. Schools need to be held accountable for their bad recruiting. This said SMU is looking bad because someone in the football department did not think about the wording of a statement prior to its release.

From what I have heard, the kid does have a history of making problems, not the kind that make the press, but the kind that undermine a team and the coaching staff. Irvin should also contact his HS coach who would verify this.

By the way, I mistakenly left my radio on ESPN and was listening to it later in the day, simply the worst programing I have ever listened to. Even worse than the Ticket when they go off sports into some other areas.

Try 92.5 FM. Classic rock is awesome.

Look whose badmouthing the kids on an internet message board now where they can't defend themselves? You went after me for months for calling a kid with verified testing that showed that he was among the Nation's fattest, most out of shape, slowest and unagile Lineman and predicting that (unless he changed) was not a top prospect and wouldn't get signed by any school-he DIDN'T. But all of a sudden you are making vague derogatory comments about a poor kid. Apologize MEXMUSTANG. We are waiting.

You make that lifestyle "choice" if you want (although I thought the conventional wisdom now was that gayness was genetic). NTTAWWT.

My wife & I were going to lunch yesterday & I was lucky enough to stumble across this "hack job". Even my wife called bull sheet on what is really a bad, bad radio show. Very difficult to listen to.
105.3 FM (The Fan) is the new home of the Texas Rangers & they have a pretty decent sports show that I have been listening to lately.

Your right Stallion, I appologize... I shouldn't call a 19 year old down regaldless of the facts--even though he chose to set himself up for criticism by appearing in radio and the News. These were his choices. Actually, I thought I was pretty specific, person, action and verification by his HS coach.

Then the HS coach should come out and make those statements publicly.

Doubt that will ever happen, what his upside and motivation? In this case all we can hope for is silence...have we heard anyone from the HS call JJ down or run to the player's support? Let's just see what happens when we try to recruit from his HS.
Have we heard anyone cry foul from his college team? Bo's comments may have expressed the team's feelings accurately.

As it has been mentioned, this is a regular practice by other schools, but does anyone know if other school send out press releases announcing it? Sure, eventually it would get out, but it's not exactly something the school wants to announce.

And I have no problem with these kids defending themselves since it was ridiculous to include the blanket statement about all of these kids either being trouble makers or having low GPAs. If it was due to lack of talent then just state that these kids were not fulfilling their scholarships as student-athletes...that keeps it nice and generic and covers on & off field issues. So I'll happily chalk this up as yet another screw up by the athletic administration.
