June's Second Class
I know a lot of folks thought that because of June Jones we would see an immediate impact in recruiting. Mainly, that our 09 class would have a few more higher ranked players or would be our best class in years. Don't get me wrong, it;s a solid class but given the June Jones name, many expected more.
You really can't judge the job a head coach is doing recruiting until his second season. With June's second class, he and his staff will have had a full year to evaluate, recruit, and make an early impact on the class that were juniors in 09. Something he was unable to do with the 09 class. That is what really excites me about McGuin, our first player for the 09 class. This really is Jone's first class and it's off to a great start.

I think it took June some time to get used to the way recruiting has evolved in Texas. I doubt he ever has recruited so early and offered so many kids so early. With the development of these "Junior Days" across the state where kids are being offered in late January or Feb of their senior year, it is all the more important for schools like SMU to fall in line behind Texas, OU, LSU, etc. to hold their own Junior Days. I am VERY encouraged about the possibility of the 2010 class, especially if we can string together a 5-7 or maybe even 6-6 record next season. This thing is about to take off guys. Seriously its going to be fun around here for the next several years.
Back off Warchild seriously.
More like his fourth season before you can fully evaluate a coach (and his staff) in terms of recruiting. They might find a few guys who can contribute early, but on the whole, you have to wait until his recruits get to their junior and senior seasons (hopefully after a redshirt season for a lot of them) before a recruiting evaluation can be deemed even remotely accurate.

I think we are going 2-10 maybe 3-9 this year. It will not be until the 3rd year we will have a winning season. And even then I doubt it unless we take a lot of JUCO D-Line this year or nextmustangxc wrote:I understand that, but you still need to give a coach time.
