Cotton Bowl memories

Postby RGV Pony » Tue Mar 03, 2009 12:27 pm

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone had any fond Cotton Bowl memories...either from the Bowl games played there, or when we played there, or from the thread on this very board which was canned today, March 3, 2009

I remember it like it was yesterday..or maybe the day before.

I saw a gigantic thread and thought I might check it out. I read the first page or so, then skipped to the end. It was then I knew I would have to search through every page to know exactly when it got derailed, ya know...for research.

1982 Cotton Bowl -- Texas vs. Alabama

The Longhorns Herkie Walls catches a TD pass late in the game to give UT a 14-11 victory over the Crimson Tide. Great game.

For SMU,
Don't remember much about SMU-Pitt.

But in my era, I remember the tough loss to BYU and beating TCU, 10-6, in the rain. I think it was in Fran's first year.

Oh, and don't forget Roy Rios' chip shot field goal that doinked off the upright in a loss to Missouri.

Didn't go to the game where we blew the huge lead to Ole Miss.

But I remember the 17-10 win over Arkansas when Ramon Flanigan was lost for the season because of a dislocated hip. Chris(?) James led us to the win.

Went to the A&M-UCLA cotton bowl when Troy Aikman was a senior. Terry Hatcher in the crowd.
