Honoring LeVias' #23

Pretty much is limited to certain positions. Lineman can't wear the number. The NCAA has certain number requirements for certain positions. SO in some ways it is a limited honor. I think it is a great idea and a true honor for the athlete that earns it. But it is a limited honor thanks to the NCAA and its usual killjoy rules.

Once again, the NCAA finds a way to screw something up.

I agree. I have never been a fan of retiring jersey numbers. It just doesn't make sense. Have an "honor roster", "ring of fame", "ring of honor", "hall of honor" that recognizes the player who wore that number BUT keep the number in circulation - what better way to remember Doak Walker than to have a Mustang wear his #37 on Saturday afternoon? And an honor for the player to wear it. I guess #37 was last worn about 1989? I know Texas provides individual players with a list of every longhorn that ever wore that player's number. I think the Levias idea is terrific - and the only exclusioins would be interior offensive linemen. Why not "free-up" #73 for them?

You make a good point, but why not go farther with your idea. Have the lead wear WR #23, and lead RB #19 and so on

Not the National Corrupt Athletic AssHolination's fault. Number ranges
are pretty much a universal thing, especially wanted if you're defense.

You might not want to pick up #50 outta the backfield for a pass if
you're a linebacker, and said #50 is wandering a bit too far downfield.

Next to the 40's, those were the best unis & of course the best helmets next to the running mustang we have now. Totally UNIQUE!!! :idea:
