Losing out on Scotty Youngso TT gets Young, our only qb offer for 2010? I really thought with JJ we would have signed a 4 or 5 star qb by now...
Has the luster worn off?? This is a prospect i thought we'd get over Leach and TT. No offense to Bo, but with JJ's pedigree I thought we'd be be in the mix for a lot more quality qb's. I mean, even Phil got justin willis. If i'm way off base, please correct me...
5 star? No way. Maybe a low 4 star. I am surprised we have not had more 3 star types with quality offers though. Especially when you look at how productive Colt Brennan has been for the Redskins as a rookie.
It's not that hard to convince good quarterbacks to come here to play for June Jones. But they have to fit JJ's definition of a good fit, with accuracy being the most important attribute. Now if we're coming off the fourth consecutive one win season in two years, that's when the bloom is off the rose.
I think JJ is pretty choosy on QBs. Maybe he will offer the Joeckel kid. I still think he and his brother will choose the same school so it may workout where we could get both.
Re: Losing out on Scotty Young
Yes, we have decided to offer only one QB this year. And if we get him, great. If we don't, then we'll wait until the 2011 class. Looks like we're waiting because there are no other quarterbacks out there that we will pursue ever again for the 2010 class. Sometimes, it's unbelievable how tunneled the thinking is in recruiting.
Not sure what Pat White was rated coming out of highschool but Justin Willis was rated a 5.5 by rivals. ie the lowest 3 star possible. Kyle Padron was rated a 5.4 star this past year- the highest rated 2 star possible, per rivals. Seems to me that rivals saw them to be similar prospects coming out of high school. Will Padron ever put together two seasons as good as Willis' first 2 at SMU? Not sure, but regardless I don't think it will be because of their rivals ratings in this instance.
I think this is accurate. JJ likes who he likes rregardless of how they're rated evidenced by the gguys who said they were interested in us but never got offers. It sounds a little crazy but with his track record of productive qb's and offenses, probably not yet time to get scared. Regarding other positions, our 2010 offers are competing with offers from SEC/Big XII caliber schools, let's hope we land a few
Re: Losing out on Scotty Young
My point was that I thought we'd have a higher quality of qb's interested in us with JJ at the wheel. And thought we would've signed one by now. Sometimes, it's unbelievable how tunneled the thinking is on message boards. ![]()

Well, maybe our Scout and Rivals guys don't have everything up to date. I'm not trying to argue. I'm just saying to apply a little patience to this. Remember, most high school football programs are going through their spring football in May -- the designated evaluation period. And who knows how many have visited and are coming to our spring football. Just let the process evolve a little bit. I know people get caught up by the fact that Texas already has 19 commitments and think we should be there too. But that's just not the way it works. Don't sweat it too much.
Saying that it's easy to convince QBs to play for JJ over Mike Leach is like saying that there's a huge difference in the shapes of the bases of the pyramids at Giza. Leach runs a pass-happy offense just like JJ; just like Chang and Brennan, QBs put up huge numbers at TT.
That being said...it might be easy to convince a QB to play for JJ as opposed to, say, Mike Sherman, but even Sherman has Tom Rossley.
