Do you realize what you're saying here? We've had 2 consecutive 1 win seasons and last year our starting QB threw as many INTs as TDs.....so we are going to only offer one QB and if he doesn't commit we will sit tight until next year??? My god, man. Get real. There isn't a position on this team that we couldn't use a serious upgrade in, much less QB.....to suggest that there is only one who we will or should offer is absolutely insane.George S. Patton wrote:Yes, we have decided to offer only one QB this year. And if we get him, great. If we don't, then we'll wait until the 2011 class. Looks like we're waiting because there are no other quarterbacks out there that we will pursue ever again for the 2010 class.
Sometimes, it's unbelievable how tunneled the thinking is in recruiting.

That's OK. TCU had a great experience with another Ryan quarterback in James Battle. Remember the hype that came with him?HFvictory wrote:In talking to some of the coaches in that area it would be tough for JJ to recruit out of any Denton HS, much less Ryan at this point.
And if you're inferring that because Jones removed Willis -- a former Ryan player -- as the starting QB, I find that a little hard to believe. Coaches understand the business and personnel moves, even the unpopular ones. If Joey Florence and John Walsh and the others hold that over our heads, then that's pretty stinko on their part.
However, I give Florence, Walsh and others more credit than that.

after watching the sugar bowl WVU vs UGA, I posted a question as to what Willis was rated...I recall someone else posting they were the same.MustangIcon wrote:Not sure what Pat White was rated coming out of highschool but Justin Willis was rated a 5.5 by rivals. ie the lowest 3 star possible. Kyle Padron was rated a 5.4 star this past year- the highest rated 2 star possible, per rivals. Seems to me that rivals saw them to be similar prospects coming out of high school. Will Padron ever put together two seasons as good as Willis' first 2 at SMU? Not sure, but regardless I don't think it will be because of their rivals ratings in this instance.RGV Pony wrote:good point on Willis. He was rated as high as Pat White coming out of HS...a high 3-star.
I would submit that 5.5 is a high three for us. Seeing is how we don't get that many of them anyway.
To HF, why the difficulties for JJ in Denton?

Blocking JJ from recruiting in Denton ISD because he suspended a player for breaking the rules, then allowed him back on the team and moved him to a position where he should flourish in the offense is absolutely ridiculous.LA_Mustang wrote:why is that ridiculous?CalallenStang wrote:Because of Willis?
That's just ridiculous.
Ahh. I forgot about the Goldthorpe thing. But who else was among them? I forgot the list.
But if they're going to get pissy about that. Keep in mind, Jones said in his statement that he was going to help them find another place. I don't if that will really happen, but if he does, wouldn't that speak to him differently?
I really hope that these coaches got both sides of the story, and didn't let their natural bias toward their player run interference.

I think Sowe is another-plus what happened to Willis could still have an affect. Young mentioned that he grew up watching Willis at Denton Ryan. I've said before and will again that I agree with HFvictory that there is a cost for agressively running players off-right or wrong that is the perception based on how the release was handled-the issue is whether the cost is outweighed by the benefit. But to put blinders on and blabber on about "everybody does it" doesn't get to the point. The reputation can hurt in some cases.
