58 in a row: incredible or embarrassing??I know Memphis is good, really good, but this is ridiculous. Other than pumping up their confidence, which I don’t think they were lacking anyway, what good does it do them to completely dominate every team, every year in C-USA? They have no true C-USA rival that can compete at their level......they don’t get the advantage of playing tough, close conference games like top teams in the other conferences. Even the Zags get challenged and beaten several times a year in WCC. I bet Calipari is doing everything he can to get them in a real b-ball conference. Btw, they are one more conference win away from the all-time NCAA record for consecutive conference wins.

sorry, one win from the second most in history...they need seven to break the record - Kentucky '45-50

I would put it in the embarrassing department. They are very good, but looking OOC, they lost to Georgetown (who is near the bottom of the BE) and barely beat Tennessee. The funny thing is that the closest they have come to losing in that stretch was to us. They seem to really step it up a notch when they play UAB and UH. But the fact that they have won this many in a row without stubbing their toes when playing the bad to mediocre teams like us, Rice, Tulane, ECU and Marshall is a real tribute to their program.
It really is awful that no one in conference can beat them. I wish someone would, but I have to give them props- its quite an accomplishment.
Of course, this is a reason I favor the CUSA tourney being played somewhere not in Memphis. They already own the conference. Maybe, just maybe, someone tops them in the tourney if they didn't play at home every year. The again, they have played 3 seasons worth of CUSA road games and haven't lost, so not sure why tournament would make things that much different.
So how many should you get in the tourney?
Just Memphis. UAB, Tulsa and Houston (Maybe UTEP) probably going to the NIT or CBB.
I was thinking the same thing but you're right, I doubt it would make any difference. Plus, where would you have it? I’m sure C-USA would be worried no one would show up at a site other than Memphis. I guess Tulsa would probably be the best option. Off the top of my head, Memphis, UTEP and Tulsa are the only schools that draw a decent crowd at home games. If it was in Dallas, Houston or New Orleans no one would go. SMU-12 NCAA appearances, 1 Final Four

Agreed. Memphis to NCAA. UAB and Tulsa postseason locks for NIT/CBI. Houston and UTEP postseason likely for NIT/CBI. If Tulsa or UAB played there way into the CUSA Championship game and lost to Memphis in a close one, I could see them having an argument for the NCAA Tourney. Afterall, UAB is #43 is RPI according to the link I posted in the other thread.
Beating the teams in C-USA that many times is not really incredible for a team like Memphis, but I wouldn't necessarily call it embarrassing.
Memphis is an elite team that would probably be at or near the top of any other conference. Since the streak started, they have been an Elite 8 team, a National Champion runner up, and a top 5 team this year, Memphis is one of the best teams in the country the last 3 years, and they just happen to be in our conference. Yes they had a couple of iffy losses early this year, but they were tweaking their lineup, since they got it right they have been unstoppable. Remember, part of their current winning streak included a real @ss whipping of Gonzaga on their home court when they were in the top 10. Womack + Wishbone = Heisman

I think winning 58 straight is pretty incredible even for a team as talented as Memphis. You would think one night they would have an off game and their opponent would play over their head. It's not like they are playing 12 guys off the street every night. SMU-12 NCAA appearances, 1 Final Four

It is a total embarrassment.
This can be easily judged by the # of C-USA opponents that have gone to the NCAAs during this streak. It will only get worse if Memphis loses early in the tournament and their defeat will be blamed in part on their lack of ‘toughness’ that was impossible to create given their cupcake conference opposition.
interesting...and I think Tulsa is going to be pretty good next year. Only one of their regulars is a SR. SMU-12 NCAA appearances, 1 Final Four

Great! That means we will be pretty good too. All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
