Official SMU - Houston Game ThreadModerators: PonyPride, SmooPower From reading the sorry first half and better play the second. McCoy played the second half?
That is somewhat in jest... but, this team has not put a whole game together. At least not one that I saw. Bamba Gone. Release the Old Man and bring in a JUCO big man for next year. Mustang Militia: Fight the good fight"
If you mean Bamba, he was a senior, sure he would like to come back if the NCAA would let him ![]() Womack + Wishbone = Heisman
Class of 89
And that's the reason I rarely post on opponent boards. ![]()
I think Papa has too much upside to just cut loose. I was actually proud of him last night...He had a horrendous start, missed some shots, let some passes go through his hands, a three second violation....but in the second half he made some nice catches and got some baskets. Ironically, if it wasn't for foul trouble by Otis and Bamba, he probably would have not gotten back up that game.
With Bamba gone, we need him to improve and have his big body available, regardless what other big men come in. Womack + Wishbone = Heisman
Class of 89
I think it all depends on what Doh has cooking come signing day as to who stays and who goes. I hate to see us run off any players, but I can also see Doh trying to save his job, and this crew has not shown the capability to step up and get it done. We have another 7 foot HS beanpole project coming in this fall, and as I understand it, no schollies left to offer. So, someone will have to leave for Doh to offer anyone new.
The good news is while the 2007 Class continues to flounder something like 27 out of 30 of the Top Scoring Performances came by newcomers. The 2008 Class really wasn't bad. Nykundi a redshirt from the 2007 Class showed a shooting touch in his first year too. I've seen guys like Nykundi-who can shoot really blossom. Nykundi reminds me of guys like Eric Longino, Kevin Lewis and Quinton Ross who started off as 6-8 ppg guys but improved each year and turned out to be 18 ppg team leaders. Doherty's job may depend on that type of overachieving player.
I think I was one-if not the first to complain about Doherty taking 7 freshmen in his first class (in fact before they had ever played and you guys were running around talking about a bogus "Top 25 Class") but at SMU you don't run Coaches off for having one bad or even non-productive recruiting year. I agree he should be judged critically next year. But this year is not the time to draw final conclusions. Let him have at least a Junior Class. Let him recruit another class-hopefully he get some nice late signees just like he did last year who can immediately produce. If there is not solid improvement next year then his job may be in jeoparsdy.
