Donte Medder wasn't on the recruiting trail much this past spring and summer, but a big senior year is garnering him plenty of attention from a variety of programs...
Donte Medder, 6-1 SR PG Mesa (Ariz.) High, is one of the top players at his position in the West Coast class of 2009. Medder is a true point, with good quickness and excellent passing ability. His size, athleticism and skill level are above average for the position and he figures to be a hot commodity for college coaches still looking for a point guard in 2009.
I spoke with Medder recently and asked about the schools that have been expressing interest.
"Iowa, St. Mary's -- they came to my game the other night -- SMU, San Francisco, Fresno State, UC Riverside and San Diego have all been showing interest," said Medder. "I went to San Diego for an unofficial visit during the MaxPreps tournament."
Medder said UC Riverside is the only school that has offered so far, but that figures to change in the near future as more college coaches get a look at him.
I asked Medder what he's looking for in a school.
"Just being comfortable with the staff and the chance to play right away," said Medder. "The location doesn't really matter."
Medder said he's in no rush to pick a school.
"I'll finish the season and then decide in the spring," said Medder."
Medder said he has a 2.7 GPA and he'll be taking the ACT later this month.

“When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. But with these players coming in, we should make a run. We have a lot of heavy hitters. It could get real ugly for a lot of teams we play.”- Jalen Jones

The thing that stands out in the video to me is his ability to handle the rock with either hand very well & it appears he like to D it up.

Medder has emerged as one of the top unsigned guards in the country after a breakout senior season.
SMU has offered him according to Rivals. He also has offers from Rutgers, San Diego St, Fresno State, St Mary's & the leader of the pack right now is Tulsa. Marquette was @ a recent practice & it appears more schools are getting in the mix for him.

Wow. Thats impressive. More highly rated than McCoy last season even. Would be great if we could add another player of McCoy's caliber to the roster.papawasamustang wrote:http://insider.espn.go.com/ncb/recruiting/tracker/player?recruitId=78118&season=2009&action=login&appRedirect=http%3a%2f%2finsider.espn.go.com%2fncb%2frecruiting%2ftracker%2fplayer%3frecruitId%3d78118%26season%3d2009
