What do y'all think about the no bye-week thing. I always thought bye-weeks were a good thing. Is there a school of thought that bye-weeks are not good? I'm no football expert, so I'm curious what people think about this.
If we were 4 and 4 after 8 weeks, I would welcome a bye to rest up and heal injuries. 1-7 and I would welcome an early end to the misery. Other than that I think you can make a case either way. Some teams need the rest and healing time, others lose momentum and come out rusty after a week off. Best thing is to play them as they come and try to win as many as you can. No excuses. All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
2009 SMU Football Schedule
Sept. 5 - Stephen F. Austin W (1-0) Sept. 12 - at UAB L (1-1) Sept. 19 - at Washington State L (1-2) Sept. 26 - Tulane W (2-2) Oct. 3 - at TCU L (2-3) Oct. 10 - East Carolina L (2-4) Oct. 17 - Navy L (2-5) Oct. 24 - at Houston L (2-6) Oct. 31 - at Tulsa L (2-7) Nov. 7 - Rice W (3-7) Nov. 14 - UTEP W (4-7) Nov. 21 - at Marshall L (4- eight) Just a prediction, but I'll be happy with 4-5 wins. I think we start to turn the corner in recruiting if we can pull that off. "I'm a little different than your normal Texas coach, but I get it done, and we win."
I agree. Bye weeks can be kind of a crapshoot, depending on where they fall in your schedule. Sometimes it is good to get your team rested and healthy, and other times it is nice to have extra preparation time for a big game or to make some adjustments if things aren't going well. However, especially earlier in the season, a lot of teams come out rusty after the time off. In my opinion, it would be nice to have a week off somewhere in the middle of our schedule--that stretch of six games starting with TCU is pretty brutal. Would be nice to have a week off somewhere in there to break that up, but like mrydel said, this is our schedule--no excuses.
I don't think Mustang fans need to get too comfortable with the Sept.26 date with Tulane. I coached at McNeese University in LA and still have numerous friends there. Friends of that staff assure me that they have a signed contract with Tulane for Sept.26. It is on many of Tulane's schedues as well. Someone at Tulane screwd up, but I think the Ponies will end up playing their game at the end of the season with Tulane.

They have a 3* qb transfer from Alabama that will be able to play next season and a couple of wr who I have been told by a friend looked good last year in the little playing time they received. Sent from my KOREAN knockoff using Tapdance 5
Oh yeah. I forgot about that transfer. I guess thats another L
Ha. Tulane is not alone. Miami (OH) double booked a weekend as well!
They have Colorado and Northwestern scheduled for Sept. 12. http://www.buffzone.com/news/2009/mar/1 ... -question/ CU appears to have Sept. 26 open.....perhaps McNeese St can arrange some sort of trade and head to Boulder instead. Hawkins did say he would win 10 games this year, he needs all the help he can get!
