The point is CA, this is a fairly typical trend around here, this current situation is really no different from what has been happening since Doc Hayes showed up. Hayes, a coaching LEGEND at SMU, did not win the SWC crown until his 8th. year..with 4 SWC losing seasons building up to the 1954-55 season...Bob Prewitt's teams in the 60's were REAL inconsistent, ala, winning season, losing season, winning season, losing sesason, etc...what did Sonny Allen do? 3 of his first 4 were losing seasons..Bliss sucked in his first 2...Shumate had 4 losing seasons before the BIG TURN AROUND in 92-93..Dement's first 3 seasons had us with losing conference records..so, this is part of the deal, this is part of our basketball history, MOST school's bball history..Doh will turn things, be cool. We act like this current situation is unpresidented...makes me chuckle.

so you're now the resident historian of smu hoops. Where have you been the past 10 years? I figure such a fan of SMU basketball would have stopped by to straighten us out before now but you just now show up today to tell us Doh will almost certainly turn it around? Let me guess, you just found the internet. Or, you work in the athletic dept and spent some time today looking through the archives? Thanks bro, but Doh has some serious work to do before he or any real fan of smu bball should relax.

...is that all you got? Guess that sort of proves my point...Doh does have some work to do, hayes had work to do, Prewitt had work to do, Bliss, etc. etc. etc..did you actually think Doh was going to turn this thing in less than 3? Give me something other than some sophmoric retort....

All I got? i know you just got here an all but how about making a real point first that goes beyond saying Doh "street cred" (laughable) and looking through a press guide to quote stats on ancient smu bball history (worthless).
Doh's tenure has been mostly a mess so far. The roster management, the lineups/subsititutions, the offense, the repeated collapses, the losses to Pine Bluffs etc, the overall record, worse record each year, lack of rebounding fundamentals, lack of toughness, lack of organization at crunch time, and zero quality wins this year, no local ties on the staff, no progress in recruiting the local powers the list goes on.
On the good side, he recruited Paul McCoy. Good, tough kid and heck of a player for a freshman. Kid is real. Second thing is you have to give doh some credit for getting the practice facility across the finish line. I will try to think of a third thing. maybe you can help me.

Looking at the situation with a 50 - 60 year perspective may lessen the sting, but the present view is not pretty.
This isn't the 50's, 60's, 70's or 80's, so Doherty isn't going to get 8 - 10 years to build a winner. Given his third team was worse than the prior two and a lack of sustained success at any of his previous stops, fan skepticism is warranted.

I did, but nobody listened.

HF..so, new folks are not welcomed here, unless they fall into a pre-set way of thinking? Sorry to hit you with some logic, history, facts, stats and debate. I think I make some valid points, not tainted with pissy bitterness and over reacting venom. Let me then try to fit in better, I think I understand how it should go...."Doh totally sucks after 2.8 years...no talent hack...fire the sob, now!!...team lacks EVERYTHING..this current situation is so out of the ordinary for us...my hot dog is cold..marketing stinks...no place to park..Tubbs got a raw deal.." Can I now be part of the "elite 34" that make this board such a dynamic site?

34? That's more than I thought. Did you count Lamont Cranston, MM65, and Spock as 3 or just 1?

sounds more like a defensive employee from the athletic dept, who thinks we should be happy with our cold hot dog and crap sandwich of a season. SMU fans have the patience of saints. Who was it, Copeland, who used to say SMU had the most loyal core of fans in the country all things considered? And that was 10 years ago, the 10 years since have been even more lean. Far more actually. The mid 90s football and basketball seems like glory days right now.

by all means, you are more than welcome. I have had an honest, clean debate with many people on here for many years now. Hope you actually stick around, and keep the same name for a while. Why do you mind answering the question where you've been all these years? You imply a deep personal history with SMU basketball, yet you just registered yesterday. You gotta agree that is odd and when you lecture people about being Vitale Wannabes, you might just deserve a dig or two.

Doherty gets another year but there has to be drastic improvement with this group.
I'm not asking for .500 or better. I could live with 14-16 with 6-8 conference wins. But if they are not a balanced basketball team, a smarter basketball and a better free throw shooting basketball team, then 14-16 won't even happen.
He has to get a 6-6 forward who will drive the ball to the basket and be an enforcer.
