UCONN/CUSEIt's currently in Triple OT(3:49 left) with UCONN up by 2. I hope people have watched this game because it has undoubtedly became an INSTANT CLASSIC.
An absolute magnificient game. I was glad I stayed up and watched it until the end.
The number off the top of my head: 1. Game time 3 hours 46 minutes 2. 8 players fouled out between both teams 3. Syracuse PG played 67 of 70 possible minutes 4. Teams attempted something like 95 FTs and well over 200 FGs. 5. I don't think anyone left The Garden. To me it ranks up there with SMU-UAPB this year. Just kidding. Actually, from a game standpoint without knowing what was at stake, it was close to Duke-Kentucky, 1991.
As a native of Syracuse, I was going crazy last night. Go 'Cuse!
When Syracuse had to reach beyond the starting 5 and 2 bench players who see regular playing time, they went to a freshman who had played 20 minutes all season (most likely in a blowout win like Rutgers or some SUNY school) and a walk-on that had only scored 2 points. I would like to see Daugherty use 7 players to develop chemistry. I think the revolving door he has at the scorers table mentally affects the players. They play with the fear they will be yanked for the slightest mistake and have to get use to numerous combinations of players on the floor. Work hard off the game floor (practice, weight room, classroom) to make the top 7.
I loved the line that Bill Raftery used about "I don't think Jim Boeheim was envisioning that he was going to have to talk to his walk-on about what he wanted him to do in the 6th overtime.''
Just a great game. Could Harris' be more snakebitten around the goal? Thought Sean McDonough, Bill Raftery and Jay Bilas rose to the occasion with a great call.
And once again Thabeet can't deliver in the clutch. In my opinion he is one of the most overrated players among the college basketball elite. How many times in the closing seconds of regulation and the first couple of overtimes (before he fouled out) did he get muscled off a rebound?
It was a great game though, I just feel sorry for Jay Bilas, having to sit next to Raftery for 4 hours.
With all these top teams losing, if Memphis takes care of business in the CUSA tournament, are they going to be #1 in the final polls before the Big Tourney starts?
Quite amazing if they are. Womack + Wishbone = Heisman
Class of 89
I doubt it, they needed UNC to lose today also. They should be pretty good for a 1 seed if they win out though, since UConn and Oklahoma both probably missed their shot.
