Anyone visiting this weekend?

Postby Charleston Pony » Sat Jan 24, 2004 9:17 am

Haven't heard about anyone visiting this weekend. I can't help but think how nice it would be if prospective recruits could be taken to the game at Moody and witness 7-8,000 screaming fans watching the Ponies whip La Tech. With a little planning, we maybe could have set that up. I have to believe it hurts our recruiting for these kids to see the lack of support for our ahletics programs. We've got a basketball team with enough talent to win and this time of year, we should be using that as part of the overall recruiting strategy. Show 'em some excitement!

I say once again what I have said repeatedly...attendance is directly relational to the quality of the entertainment put forth on the floor. We will never know if 7-8,000 is a plausible goal as long as nobody wants to go watch the same old tired movie. Remember the cause and the effect. Cause: Competitive, entertaining, well-promoted contest between well-regarded natural/regional rivalry teams in which both teams show excitement, ability, and work ethic. Effect: Good attendance. Contrary to what many on this board naively think, attendance only comes with some semblence of quality play and success (ie: a team that has not lost to San Diego, Ap St, OSU by 35, and, most recently, Rice by 40).

I speculate: SMU starts slowly against an inferior opponent. Listless first half has SMU totally clueless on offense while struggling just to keep (name any opponent) from stealing the ball. At the half, game is within six either way. Second half sees (name any opponent) forge a slight lead. SMU continues to have no flow offensively but makes a valliant run late to close the gap. At the end, SMU loses by less than 6.

Anyone seen this movie before? I have seen virtually every home game since '94 but I have absolutely no interest in going today. Good luck to the Mustangs, but I'll not return until there is something new to give me a renewed interest.

Like maybe a new coach! Let's face it, could a new coach lose to Rice by more than 40? I'm just glad we have already played Baylor!

Frankly, I don't care what the fix is, Mr. Copeland is well paid to put forth a better product in all the major sports. I am totally disinterested at this point.
