I'm sure we all remember last year when the Memphis fans were saying that Doh called them a 2nd tier team, while Doh said he was saying out of the teams left, they were in the 2nd tier to win it all. Anyway, this still comes up
VERY often over on the CUSA boards! Get ready for round 36:
March 24
"Sweet 16"
Ok...who do you like???
I like UCONN to face UNC in the finals! UCONN is rolling over people and with Ty Lawson back Carolina looks strong!
Must see games:
- Memphis vs Mizzou: this will be up-tempo "super-sized"! The pace of this one will be ridiculous! I like Memphis.
- Duke vs 'Nova: good matchup as both teams are perimeter orientated. Edge to 'Nova because they have better speed and quickness, plus, Cunningham is better than any Duke inside player.
I can't wait to get the emails from Memphis fans saying I am not supportive of my C-USA foe because I don't have them in the title game. The Dukies will send a couple, too!
Bring it on....it's March Madness!
Pony Up!
Coach Doh

I'm sorry but that's not real bright on Doh's part. We play Memphis 2 times per year and we probably will never play UConn. I'd pick Memphis just to avoid giving them BB material next year. I understand his picking Carolina, his blood runs Tar Heel blue. Or at least demur by saying something like boy UConn is loaded and Memphis is loaded, that should be one heck of a game.

The Memphis fans don't seem to think anything is wrong at all when their beat writer says that SMU "doesn't care" and cites that we "can't get 4,000" people to games at Moody against Memphis (obviously, we have had many more than 4,000 people at our games against the Tigers in the past two years), so I could care less what they think about Doh's comments.

Is it really goin' to matter what Doherty says when they expect to bring in the Top class in the Country this year to add to an already stocked roster? Darn you Doherty!!!!

Hey I'd rather have a bored and uninterested Memphis squad playing us than one with a chip on their shoulders. Yeah, we'll probably lose, but we have more of a chance to get lucky.

4K sounds about right for this year. They are correct to say that SMU cannot draw a decent crowd.

Attendance was a little over 5k this year. It was 7500 in 2008.

Big difference between a newspaper beat writer saying something negative and a fellow head coach.

Beat writer is supposed to report the facts. Shows a lot about his credibility when he blindly throws "facts" out there and they are untrue.
While coaches should have a modicum of respect for their conference brethren, they are not charged with reporting the facts. Doh's opinion was an opinion. The beat writer's comments were stated as fact.
