No news?

Postby Mike Damone » Mon Feb 02, 2004 2:01 pm

This board is dead. You'd think there would at least be some discussion two days before signing day. Opinions on why this class is good, or why it sucks.

And what happened to the suprises. All the recruits we were going to steal?
The attitude dictates that you don't care whether she comes, stays, lays, or prays. I mean whatever happens, your toes are still tappin'. Now when you got that, then you have the attitude.

Well, if we were going to "steal" a recruit, they'd keep it real quiet until the kid signs, otherwise the school he's already committed to would get wind of it and try and change his mind again.

As for why it is otherwise so quiet, it is because we are all so depressed that we have to go all the way to the Mercury Grill on wednesday for crabcakes.
At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Good Lord! You guys need to seriously quit b*tching about the frickin' Mercury Grill. I mean does it honestly bother you that much where the recruiting party is? It sounds like people are just whinning for lack of anything better to do.

I was being facetious, dillweed. Damone was complaining about it earlier. I was just busting his chops.

For the record, the Mercury Grill doesn't have crab cakes on its menu.

Yes, it is very, VERY quiet out there right now. Very interesting, because I have us with 17 committments and with tate leaving we shoudl have 21 or 22 scholarships open.

My guess is that we haven't extended formal offers to a couple of players, and that we are still hoping for big fish to come over with the other available scholarships. If there are no surprise signings, we may just spend a couple on some local unknowns and keep the leftovers for next year.

I am a little surprised with the Bunton defection that we didn't go hard after any new recruits, but it may be that Bennett will hold some scholarships for next year so that he can build up some wins and recruit some better players.

Isn't the four day stretch prior to signing day a dead period, i.e., no contact between the coaches and the recruits or at least none initiated by the coaches? I always forget how these periods are split up and what the restrictions are.

SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

We'll end up with a couple more but Recruiting is essentially over until signing date as we are now in the "Quiet Period"
